Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Cotswold House being the first time we have spent any time away from our 22 month old son and a month and a half before his brother or sister arrives so this was to have been a real treat for us as we were looking for some serious R & R. We were not at all disappointed. The hotel was stunning with obvious attention paid to every detail. The service was impeccable and the food (we ate in the Brasserie and then elsewhere on our second night) was delicious. It certainly lived up to our expectations and we wouldn't hesitate to return if I could persuade the inlaws to babysit again! What I would say that although I am sure they are made welcome if you wanted to bring them, this isn't really a hotel for children and I wouldn't take mine as I think it would be unfair on the other guests. This is really a place for couples to get away from it all and relax

I can't imagine a lovelier place to stay. I've been to Cotswold House many times - sometimes for the night, and sometimes just for a meal - and I'm hooked forever!
Chipping Campden has to be the most exquisite small town in the United Kingdom. Every building is an architectural gem, the residents are friendly, and the sweeping countryside is lush and otherworldly.
The hotel stands at the center of town, and fittingly so. Its golden stone frontage extends a warm welcome, as do the hotel's two delightful owners. From the start, they made it clear that nothing would be too much trouble, and that constant attention to detail and to our comfort extended throughout our stay.
I would recommend both of the dining options. The restaurant is of top-tier quality - it rivals anything I've experienced in London or New York - and the more informal brasserie is suffused with a generosity of spirit - and of flavors! Our summer stay was particularly delightful, since we got the chance to take our coffee - and cocktails - to the sunlit patio, and to wander through the secluded gardens.
As for romance, I'm planning a trip this spring with the love of my life. There was no other place I even considered, since the owners and staff know just when to step back and let their guests enjoy each others' company, and when to approach with suggestions of enjoyable actitivities in the lovely Cotswolds. But I've found more than enough entertainment within the hotel. Every detail of the fixtures and fittings seemed to have been designed with style, comfort and pure luxury in mind. From the hot tubs to the individually tailored bedding to the contemporary sculpture, I got a sensory treat that I wished would never end. I can't wait to be there again.

This hotel starts with a perfect location...but everything else seemed to us to be perfect too. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and cherished. Christa Taylor, one of the owners, who was in reception, and indeed all the staff throughout our stay, seemed to think of each guest as a particularly chrished member of the family. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The room was, of course, spotlessly clean but also equipped with state of the art television and dvd player, the most comfortable bed we've ever sampled, a very trendy bathroom, fascinating art work and furniture, with an ideal combination of the old and the new. We had dinner the first night in the brasserie, delicious food and very welcoming service, and then the second night in the restaurant, where the only difficulty was in deciding which of the tempting dishes to have. Here too the service was ideal, anticipating everything we wanted without being intrusive. Of course Cotswold House is not cheap, but I would say it is wonderful value and I cannot wait to return.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Fall. After reading such great reviews, I was excited about the stay only to be disappointed by the RUDE service. First, I called to make the reservation. The receptionist sounded hurried, said she was on another call and that she perferred if I just emailed her instead. We arrived during the late evening; I suggest arriving in the day since the sign for the elusive parking lot is the size of a post it note and nearly impossible to find. Check-in went okay allthough the previous reviews about the snooty owners are spot on. She acted as if she was doing us a favor instead of having us as guests in her hotel. The food and drinks in Hick's are average and the staff must be family members of the owners to behave as unprofessionally as they did (asking for a drink is a real bother). The staff actually gossiped loudly with each other about the guests while at the bar. The room had some nice touches such as a very comfortable mattress and great maid and turndown service. However, the room was smaller than I expected and the towels in the bathroom were stained. It did have a great shower. The closet is the smallest I've ever seen. The price was about $470 per night, which I didn't think was out of line for the area. Breakfast is okay but the staff rudeness extends there as well. All in all, there are far better places to stay in the cotswolds. This place was snooty without much to back it up. I'd stay again if I got a deeply discounted rate. Also, I suggest staying in a larger room than the King. Location is perfect.
