We chose the hotel because it was on the High Street and made for easy strolling around Chipping Campden. The girl on the the from desk was very pleasant and showed us to our rooms chatting pleasantly, offering to help with our bags and asking if we found our way easily. She asked if there was anything she could help with and gave us useful information about the hotel, the spa across the road and the locale . Our room was warm and cosy with a nice en-suite bathroom and views out to the High St. The furnishing were very traditional and slightly tired, but very clean and I think entirely appropriate given the ambience the hotel is trying to convey (traditional country hotel). The restaurant served fantastic food. I had the most wonderful lamb beautifully presented and very tasty, my husband had pork tenderloin. The wait staff were very generous, friendly and couldn't be more helpful, wanting to ensure we had everything we needed. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and we enjoyed smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Kippers, traditional full english and even porridge was also available, along with lighter cereals, toast, pastries and several types of fruit and yoghurt. The only improvement I could think of would be in the coffee served. It did not taste like fresh brewed coffee but was ok. The little coffee shop inside the hotel did serve better coffee and also a variety of cakes all day long which could be enjoyed by the fire, in the bar or in the light and airy conservatory. Some guests found this to be a comfy place to check e-mails etc. The bar felt very much like a country pub's bar, warm, friendly and very comfortable. Both locals and hotel guests seemed to be enjoying the fire and the shelter from the rain!! The bar staff were happy to answer all our questions about the surrounding area and once again were extremely friendly and concerned that we were happy with our bar snacks and drinks. Apart from the morning coffee the only other easy improvement that could be made was to the carpet near the conservatory. It needs to be stretched as we were concerned our elderly parents would trip on the loose wrinkles in places. Other than that we would highly recommend this lovely hotel and plan to return ourselves as soon as we can get back to England. Everyone who served us did so with genuine concern for us and what seemed to be a real love for their jobs. A fantastic two days and I wish we could have stayed longer!
