“A Cotswolds break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

We (2 adults, 2 children) stayed in a family room over 4 nights. This is a welcoming, very well appointed, traditional hotel. The room(s) was large and in good condition. The noise of jazz drifting up during the evening was, however, a little distracting. The food was excellent with first rate service from all the restaurant staff. Breakfast was first rate with a very wide range of food on offer. The public rooms were very pleasant with the bar serving good real ale. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff at reception and there was an overall feeling of enthusiasm and a desire to please from everyone at the hotel.

Chipping Campden is a fine base for exploring the Cotswolds and is the start of the Cotswold Way, with many other walks in the area. The view from the Broadway Tower is exceptional.

Lovely old coaching Inn in the centre of Chipping Campden and a good base for exploring the Cotswolds or a trip to Stratford on Avon. Room was not large but clean and comfortable. Hotel has good sized car park. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice friendly bar with good beer, conservatory and restaurant and a coffee shop. Very relaxing ambience. Would return.

We visit the Cotswolds several times a year with our dog. We always visit dovers bar which is in the hotel. We are always made to feel welcome. We have just returned from a cottage holiday there and went in dovers bar every night, food is very good, staff are very friendly

From check in to check out, our four day visit was wonderful! Friendly, helpful staff in all areas of the hotel. Good central location to take day trips out to Moreton on Marsh, Batsford Arboretum and Stow on the Wold, etc..
Loved the restaurant, the great breakfast, tea, pub and evening dining!

Just spent four nights (4/28-5/3) at the quaint and cosy Noel Arms in Chipping Camden. The staff were wonderful, especially Judith and Kelly who were both so helpful. The full breakfast that was included in our room rate was delicious. I especially recommend the wild mushrooms on toast, the poached eggs were the best I've ever had. Others in our party had salmon every morning. Our rooms were cute and individual and the housekeeping staff were very good. One morning rather early we heard the clip-clop-clip-clop of a horse being taken out for a run, something we all felt rather exotic. Dinner at the hotel was also excellent. The bar was lively and the drinks and service were good. The Noel Arms is in the middle of town within walking distance of Badger's Hall and The Bantam Bakery, both great places for afternoon tea. The Tourist Office was just a few doors down, the Cotswold Way was nearby and we saw many walkers heading out for a trek. The hotel's location is very convenient for visiting many of the small villages in the Cotswolds. Looking forward to staying here again!

Room Tip: Ask for the ground floor if you have any difficulty with stairs as there are a lot of stairs.

This is a great and old hotel set right in the middle of the stunning Cotswold village of Chipping Campden. The room was perfect, good size, comfy bed, great bathroom so no complaints there. The only things that let this place down is the breakfast and some of the staff.

Firstly, the breakfast was not good at all. The continental buffet was basic to say the least and all very cheap ingredients, very cheap bread, off-brand cereals and anaemic fruit. The cooked breakfast was very poor indeed and I left most of it: very fatty bacon, tasteless tomatoes, egg poached in what seemed like pure vinegar and burnt black pudding. Everything seemed like very cheap ingredients and I would not opt for the breakfast there again. In their defense, we had dinner there too and the food was exceptional.

Secondly, the staff (while all very pleasant and friendly) all appeared to be on their first day. The front of house staff were excellent, friendly and very attentive. But the staff in the restaurant and elsewhere need a little more training. A few things we asked for never arrived, some didn't appear to have the basic knowledge of the menu or the food and there often seemed to be lots of staff for not many guests which you would hope would mean tighter service. There was also a cleaning lady who insisted on vacuuming around our table while we were having breakfast one morning which made the whole experience a little strange.

Sort out some of the details, train up the staff, overhaul the breakfast, think about the visitor experience (e.g. only having cleaning going on when most people will be out for the day?!), and this will become a 5-star review.

Room Tip: If you want a lie-in, ask for a room which is not on the front of the hotel. The front overlooks the...

I will always remember the Noel Arms for the involuntary wake-up I received at 7am on May 1st as the May Day celebrations commenced in the car park directly across the street from our upper-level room. Initial reaction: "Damn! So much for sleeping in". Follow-up reaction: "Actually this is kinda cool".
One of the reasons we selected this hotel was actually the reputation of its chef, and he didn't disappoint, but I plan on doing a separate review for the restaurant so all I'll say is that I wish more hotels had curry options on their breakfast menus. The conservatory was a lovely place to enjoy breakfast on a sunny morning, there was also a nice bar area, and even a cafe just inside the main entrance so it is definitely well set up for socialising.
The room itself was ok. Hotel wi-fi was fine in the common areas downstairs but barely worked from inside our room unfortunately. Loved the shower. You could of course adjust the water temperature, but it had just two flow rates to choose from: Off, or Serious Deluge. Presumably water is plentiful in the Cotswolds. No problems with the bed, but the hotel is an old wooden building with creaky floor boards so unfortunately with our room being one of the closest to the staircase I heard every time someone walked past our room, which as a light sleeper I found a bit annoying. I'm going to guess that Chipping Campden doesn't have many modern concrete copy-and-paste hotels though, and nor should it.
The hotel is situated in the middle of town on its main road. I guess whether that is a good or bad thing comes down to personal preference. For me it was fine and made it easy to find, and aside from half an hour each May Day it doesn't seem a noisy street. Whilst I wouldn't rave about the Noel Arms, I would be fine with staying there again in the future.
