Charming hotel in the Cotswolds about 3 miles out from Chipping Campden. Stayed with my Boyfriend (both in late 20's) for a romantic break away. Overall very good hotel with modern rooms have broken my reivew up to help give you all the info.
Hotel & Grounds
The exterior of the Hotel is beautiful and the grounds are well maintained ane postcard picture perfect. The recpetion rooms (lounge and drawing room) are exactly what you want from a country hotel rawing fires, comfy sofas and chairs, traditionally decorated without being 'chintzy'. There where some small areas of attention to detial that could have really improved the hotel eg. in the stiarwells there was an old filing cabent / cardboard boxes just left there for the whole stay, no local maps or suggested guides to the area. Nothing that is a deal breaker but small things that could have added to the overall feel.
The dining room was relativly formal (trousers and collar for dinner) and the service was attentive but not intrusive.
Breakfast was the standard cereal / pastry etc followed by cooked to order breakfast. The full english and eggs benedict where particually good and a great way to start the day.
Dinner - The menu seemed to be the same throughout our 3 night stay and we dined in the hotel on our first night the food was all tasty and lots of umms and arhs when eating although only just over a week ago I have no idea what I ate! A meal for 2 with a bottle of wine worked out to £100+
On our 2nd & 3rd night we ended up eatting at the Ebrington Arms (the 1st time was so good we had to go back) www.theebringtonarms.co.uk this is a small local pub that serves excellent food with a seasonal menu frequently changing. I had the Venison burger one night which was simply delicous! Plus the protion sizes are very generous. If you are staying at Charingworth you must pay this place a vist (about 2 miles from the hotel £8 in a cab)
Out room was an atic room. Decorated in keeping with the hotels theme but not chitzy (white bed linnen etc) the bathroom was huge with a gorgeous bath with waterfall style shower over the top. We were pleased to see a king size bed although this turned out to be the worst feature of our stay! The bed was 2 singles pushed together, which I know happens, however the single beds where both different hieghts and where incredibly hard meaning that we didn't really have that great comfy nights sleep you get with long lie ins etc. Also it was cold outside when we visited so the hotel had the heating on so you never felt it, only problem came at night as the heating remaiend on all night making the room very hot to sleep in (We couldn't find a thermastat) even with the window open it was hot.
Overall - A great stay but we didn't really spend that much time in the hotel as we where out and about exploring. We stayed on a stay for 2 nights get a 3rd night free deal so it was good value for money. The only let down was the bed other than that would def recommend.
