“Flying visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

I stayed here, to go out in the town and meet up with some friends. The hotel itself is very nice....as others have said it's decorated in an art deco style and is a very pleasant place to be.
My room was well appointed and of a good sized. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I didn't eat in the hotel, so can't comment on that.

There's a car park at the back of the hotel and also free wifi in the hotel. The hotel has ramped access at the rear (from the car park) and so seems resonably accessible too.

All in all a nice place to stay.

It was ok for a night - I suspect its the best hotel in Doncaster. Room was recently redone but amenities were lacking. Bath towels looked like they had seen better days - no turn down service. Breakfast was very sad and may have been the worst full English breakfast I have had anywhere.

A great place to stay. The art deco style makes it different from the crowd. Good sized room, good value, good food and very pleasant staff. The hotel is ideally situated for the Doncaster city centre and the racecourse.

Room Tip: Good rooms on the second floor

Amazing venue. Great Gatsby springs to mind, with the stylish 1920's Art Deco themed furnishings. We were here on the 14th of July for our younger sisters wedding. Everything went to plan, on the whole the day was excellent. The food was average, dry due to being kept hot for some time before we actually sat for the meal.

In addition to the above, during the speeches we were rudely interrupted by an uninvited individual male, wearing a football shirt, who came to collect some items in the room adjacent to the top table. The master of ceremonies allowed the individual to collect the previously left belongings whilst the speeches were in full swing. From personal experience, this unacceptable on many levels as myself and my partner over the last decade have been organising and conducting wedding breakfasts and evening parties. After speaking to the master of ceremonies, she explained to me that she had spoken to her operations manager and informed me that once the individual had entered the room and was already on his way to collect his belongings she had no choice but to let him continue, which I'm sure you will all agree that this is unacceptable and the individual should have been escorted from the function room and made to wait until the end of the speeches at the very least. This occurrence showed a complete lack of respect for the bride and groom, as well as the guests, after paying such an expense to celebrate their marriage. In my opinion this is unsatisfactory, therefore I have to leave such a negative analysis of the incompetent staff.

Excluding the above, all in all the day was absolutely fantastic and I can not fault the aesthetics of the hotel. As you are aware, 'word of mouth' advertising is worth more than any other form of advertisement.

Stayed for family function. Rooms are outstanding as is the main function room.
Would stay again when back up in Dec.
The theme is 1920 Art Deco with a twist.
Breakfast was spot on with quality food including the best scotch kippers

Room Tip: Check with hotel direct midweek for best price. On site Sales team beat best rate on bookings for me...

As we were going to Doncaster Races we decided to book The Earl as we had used it the year previous for our Wedding Anniversary !
You won't be disappointed !
It has a large rear car park .
It is in a fabulous location to Doncaster Race Course .
The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble !
We arrived in Doncaster earlier than expected but it wasn't a problem booking in to the room 2 hours early !
The executive rooms are spacious and fabulously decorated .
Very comfy pillows & beds .
After the races we had booked into the restaurant as it was steak night , what a great deal £34.95 for two sirloin steaks with all the trimmings plus bottle of wine ! The meal was delicious was too stuffed to attempt a dessert !
The breakfast too were excellent and we got a bargain as they were included in our room tariff !
There are many great deals at this hotel to be had so don't miss out !
We certainly will be returning year after year !

The first challenge for me was finding the hotel. I drove up and down the road 3 times before I noticed this white building with just "The Earl" on it in one place, when I was looking for a sign which said "The Earl of Doncaster" and therefore would be much bigger. I parked outside as I couldn't find the car park. As I learned at reception the car park is at the rear of the hotel and you have to drive round the block to access it. The exterior of this hotel doesn't look up to much, but the interior is lovely, particularly if you appreciate art deco design. The restaurant is like a step back in time in a good way. The room I had was lovely and spacious and was nicely decorated. My only criticism was the wardrobe doors didn't shut properly because the hinges were strained. Another thing to bear in mind with such an old building is the difficulty of providing effective modern features like double glazing. There is some secondary glazing in places, but it doesn't drown out all the road noise. I ate in the hotel on the first evening and there were delegates in there who wereon some sort of course. I found them noisy and they did their best to monopolise the waiting staff. The menu was a bit uninspired and the food, although edible, was average at best. The location is handy to both Doncaster town centre and the racecourse, being situated about half way between the 2. The staff were friendly.
