“Comfort, value, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

This is an excellent hotel for a budget business traveller. For a shade over £50 per night you get a good sized double bed in a clean and comfortable room with a very good shower. I agree with others that some of the fixtures and fittings are getting a tad weary but really nothing to complain about. The lighting in the bedroom could be improved - either quite stark or too dark - but otherwise good value.
The breakfast is first class: the fry-up is generous, non-greasy and fresh; perfect poached eggs on request. The restaurant and bar menus are really impressive and quite delicious food freshly prepared, all at very reasonable prices. I would imagine that even non guests would visit as the quality of the food is such that it could operate as a stand alone enterprise quite happily. Bit sneaky, though, in not serving a salad with the risotto as advertised unless the customer complains about its absence. The same waitress feigned surprise that it accompanied the dish on the two separate occasions that I ordered the (delicious) risotto!! All a bit disingenuous and not something that the extremely friendly, helpful, genuinely attentive and highly professional owner, Simon, would approve of I'm sure.
On the whole, just like the boss, the staff were very helpful and courteous though just a couple of the younger staff were a little surly and let the side down a bit. 5 nights last week to be followed by another couple this: return custom is a pretty good barometer and on that basis I would say: overall, a very good hotel that I will certainly use again when in or near the area. Strongly recommended.

I arrived yesterday for a one night stop over. This is a nice hotel with exceptional staff. The full English breakfast was huge, tasty and non greasy. My bedroom was very clean, 14, but certain bits of furniture are showing slight signs of wear. Nothingtok bad though. I will certainly stay here again.

The regent is a good hotel for business stop overs, handy links to leeds sheffield etc.

The hotel is clean and comfortable, it has a nice restaurant with good food and service, the rooms are what you need for a night away on business.

The breakfast was good quality and very tasty.

Overall a good stay

Easy 15 min stroll from train station . Receptionist very helpful and friendly . Room was very good . Clean ,tidy , nice temperature and bed large and comfortable . Evening meal was OK without being anything special . Slept very well with no disruptions through noise etc . Cooked breakfast was very tasty and served promptly . Check-out quick and easy . Overall a very good hotel which I would recommend and definitely stay again .

On business from Plymouth, long journey on a Sunday, got to the Hotel after nine and very pleased to find a great Regency building on the side of a beautiful square with a Park in the middle. Night Porter on duty doubling as Receptionist and Barman was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. Good sized room, spotlessly cleaned (a bit of a trek but worth it!).

Morning staff equally friendly, talkative, nothing too much trouble. Good solid breakfast, ordered at table rather than buffet style.

Wifi a little dodgy in room, but no issue as used bt open zone.

Very well appointed and definitively on my list of hotels to stay in that aren't bland, disinterested chains.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Stayed there in July 2011, travelling from Sheffiled, I wanted to be close to the airport while I had the flight next day,
+ room and bathroom were clean
+ not bad location

- the wifi didn't work
- there was weeding so it was noisy
-it was hard to find the entrance - you need to go through the pub.

I would recommend this hotel, but its nothing special.
