“Ma Pardoe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Have been drinking at this pub for many years but this was the first time I've been upstairs to the restruarnt . What a pleasant Shock........ Food served hot and quick ,I had a nice tender steak with proper chips , friend had proper faggots ,mash and mushy peas. This coupled with a few pints made a great night even better. Price for all the food/wine/drink was brilliant. Well worth regular visits.... Booking a must

“Good Sunday Lunch and exceptoinal value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Went here with my partner , to their credit they accepted my last minute booking.

We both had beef and a pint of Bumble Hole. The food was all perfectly cooked and plenty of it. The beef was lovely and came stacked up in slices that were clearly hand carved from a large joint. In too many places the meat is machine carved from a catering supplier, not here though! Everything was freshly made accompanied by very tasty gravy.

For deserted we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was full of dates' sticky and delicious.

In all it was exceptional value, no greedy landlord here just good beer good food and pleasant surroundings, a real change from some of the pretentious places that pretend to be good.

Serving staff were efficient and pleasant.

Do go here you won't be disappointed.

“Don't judge until you've been inside.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

It's easy to be put off by the front view of this pub, crammed onto the ugly Netherton high street in between off licences and takeaway places, with a bus stop outside and several less-than-reputable characters ambling by.
But go inside, it is well worth it! The staff are super friendly and the customers never (that I have seen) rowdy. It's a bit of an old man's ale pub, true - you won't usually find crowds of youngsters piling up in the beer garden or children running around. I generally go in around the back where there is a tiny beer garden and then the best bar. The room is quaint, with an organ in the corner and old decorations and paintings on the walls. There are many real ales to choose from, and a selection of spirits and soft drinks. There's bar food and cobs at lunch time as well, which are quite hearty.
It's a bit of a warren - there are several other rooms which you negotiate by means of pokey corridors. The front bar opens on to the high street and tends to be more crowded with people popping in, but the bar itself looks great with its vivid paint and old timey deco. There's also an upstairs restaurant which, though it could do with a lick of paint and maybe some new curtains, serves incredibly delicious dinnertime meals! If you live in the area and haven't eaten here then I suggest booking a table right away.
So, if you're interested in a friendly pint of ale in a charming Victorian style pub with all it's charming quirks then this is for you. But also if you want a big hearty black country meal in a pleasant restaurant it is also for you. I'm not an ale drinker myself but I'm told the Bumble Hole brew is fantastic and locally made.

“An untapped GEM”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

Wasnt overly sure what to expect from this place really. The pub itself looks a bit old fashioned and not overly welcoming. How wrong was I.

Order a couple of starters that arrived in good time. The goujons were lovely and the mushroom starter looked huge and rather tasty. The steak I had came well cooked, lovely hand cut chips and nice mash.

For desert I tried the profiteroles and they were very nice. I did ask for ice cream with them, that didn't arrive but no real stress on that.

Good value for money to. £40 for three courses and 3 drinks. Not bad at all.

We sat outside after and had a few more drinks, which again, seem reasonably priced. Real bottled lemonade used!

All in, a nice place and well worth a visit.

“Taking everything into consideration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

My review of the Old Swan (Pardoe's) has to be taken in context. You have to bear in mind that there is not much competition locally but, that said, if you live in the Black Country you could do worse than dine here. The venue is quaint and they do a lovely range of real ales that are brewed on the premises. Many of the locals and even some of the staff are real characters &, for that alone, it's well worth a visit. However, I am reviewing based on the fact that I dined here last month. The restaurant area is upstairs and, whilst I do like the fact that it’s in keeping with the rest of the establishment, it does have a feel of an old fashioned b&b which I think should & could be improved if it really wants to build a name for itself. My reflections of the serving staff were mixed. Generally pretty efficient but not especially friendly, bordering on downright miserable in one case. A really good choice of food on the menu with something for everyone. There were 4 of us dining and our starters arrived promptly and were OK. In fairness our main courses were delicious. As good as anything I'd tasted for quite some time so 'well done' to the chef! Sadly the meal was somewhat let down by the sweets which tasted as if they had been brought from a bargain basement freezer centre. On a positive note the wine list was pretty good and, overall, the bill came to £72 for 4 of us which, for 3 courses & a bottle of wine was exceptional. I'd recommend this place to anyone but, with not too much effort, it could be exceptional!
