“Excellent - felt like staff cared about their guests”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights with meal included on the first night and breakfast both mornings.

We found the room to be nicely furnished and modern.

The food included with the booking whilst on a limited menu had a good choice and tasted lovely. The staff serving were cheery and polite and gave us some advice and information on the local area.

On our first night around 1:00 am some guests were being extremely loud and constantly
banging doors and we phoned through to reception to inform them of this. We were informed by a member of staff, we believe to be Nitten, who said he would deal with it straight away. We heard him in the corridor and spoke with him to inform him that if the same guests were staying the second night we would like to be moved rooms to which Nitten replied that he would note this on the system and apologised for the situation. Once Nitten had spoken with the guests the matter was resolved.

The next morning we went down to reception and spoke with Carl to inform him of lack of sleep the following night and to check if the guests were staying a further night.

Carl confirmed that the guests had checked out but that there was a note on the system as to the following night's problems. He said that as an apology for the inconvenience we were being upgraded to a room at the very top, back part of the new extension to an Upper Deck room. We were delighted as we merely expected to be moved to a room a few floors up.

The Upper Deck rooms are wonderful with super king size beds, toiletries and starbucks sachets, the best night's sleep we had in ages.

The hotel itself is based in a good area, Birmingham town centre is a car/train ride away and there is a shopping centre a few miles up the road and also a zoo. There is within a 5 minute walk a cinema and a few food places and a large Tesco.

Overall the staff actually seemed to care about their guests which is a rareity these days, we have stayed there before and would definitely go back - but would stay in an Upper Deck room - highly recommended.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Stayed for 2 nights, I was attending a function at the hotel, quite a convenient location and plenty to do in the surrounding area. Made full use of the spa facilities which are really good, good range of treatments offered and lovely staff in there.
My main gripe about this hotel concerns the Food and service in the restaurant. The menu choice is good and rather novel reading off a printed sheet of brown paper, the problem is all the food is only ever served warm - not hot, this applies to everything I ate there. The meal in the Verve restaurant on Friday night, the food from the self serve breakfast bar and the meal served at the function. I mentioned this at reception when I was checking out and was told 'Well we have a new Head Chef' - I said it's not the quality of the food because it's all properly cooked, it's the length of time taken from cooking to serving that is the problem - there is definitely room for improvement in this area.

Overall it was a pleasant stay, if I was in the area again then I would stay there.

Workshard333 - Thank you for making us aware of your concerns with regard to the general temperature of the food you ate during your stay. I am sorry this was your particualr experience and that it spoilt the overall enjoyment of what was otherwise a positive stay with Village. Your comments have been passed to our Head Chef and Restaurant Manager for investigation. Often in these cases several guests comment when there is a consitent pattern but we are not aware of this being a genral problem in the hotel. Hopefully its an isolated expereince but we thank you for making us aware, Kind regards

We have stayed at the majority of Village Hotels and 4 of the De Vere chain, this is the second time we have stayed at this particular Village Hotel. Out of all of the Village/De Vere hotels, this is by far the best one. The customer service is second to none, all the of staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay a memorable one - which they achieved with flying colours. The check in and check out were quick, Karl (the person who checked us in) couldn't have been any more efficient or friendly and Jake in the restaurant was brilliant. I believe this hotel should be the flag ship for all the Village/De Vere chains with all staff following the customer service example given by those at Dudley. Well done Dudley it was a pleasure to stay at your hotel. Well done Daryll for providing such excellent Customer Service training!

Room Tip: We stayed in both the Superior and Family Rooms, both were equally as good as each other.

I was forced to return to The Village for various reasons.
The room was not clean - they must employ myopic cleaners? Their were black hairs stuck to the wall of the shower. The decor is tired and there was no soap / shower gel in the cheapskate, unhygeinic dispensers.
I can now sum up the Village in one short word - Yuk.

Dorking Boy - I am extremely sorry to read your comments which I trust relate entirely to the bedroom? I am unsure which room you had and I would be keen to establish the number if you would care to email me with details (darryl.holdnall@village-hotels.com). Of course your comments will be passed to Emprise, our housekeeping partner and we will work hard to identify any failings on this occasion - The hotel has undergone a significant transformation over the last 12 months and whilst we still have 40 bathrooms to complete, the overall guest expereince for the price point is in my view a positive one and much improved across the hotel.

I was at the village hotel for a conference. It's a big, very modern hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful, rooms nice with lovely comfy beds and the food was also extremely good. The spa was a bit expensive, but the treatments were carried out well. It's in a good location with a huge car park.
Would definitely go there again.
