“A very comfortable B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

With our son now starting his 3rd year at Lancaster we returned to the Shakespeare for our second stay. We once again enjoyed our stay and have no hesitation in recommending this B&B. We were warmly welcomed and offered tea or coffee as we unpacked. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable and in the morning, breakfast was excellent.
A city centre stay at an excellent price with friendly hosts.

I stayed here with a friend and colleague while we attended a conference at the University of Lancaster in August.

We had three days of wondeful breakfasts, warm comfortable rooms and complimentary wifi access. We were very well looked after and will be staying here again if we find ourselves in the area.

Cheeky? Because I haven't stayed here for a couple of years, but have every confidence that Fred and Sally have "kept up the good work" in the intervening period - and having not had Trip advisor at the time I couldn't mention it then! Lovely people, lovely place, lovely breakfasts. I even stayed here once even though I now live in the City!

Well, it was the night before my wedding! I'm thoroughly ashamed that I didn't express my gratitude more fully.

We stayed at the Shakespeare for two nights to coincide with our son's graduation at Lancaster University and were delighted with the Shakespeare. If you are reading this and wanting to book somewhere over graduation week, do it sooner rather than later as every bed in Lancaster was full, and so were the restaurants! The Shakespeare is an old tavern and is located almost opposite the Grand Theatre and the popular student venue Sugarhouse. There is a car park 50 yards from the B&B which is very handy and not too expensive, the B&B have an arrangement which means their residents can park from 6pm - 9.30am the next day for ~£2.60. Traffic warden HQ overlooks the car park so make sure you stay legal! The Shakespeare has 7 rooms and the owner reported good business mostly generated from the university with visiting families, conference goers, students on open days etc. It felt like a home from home, with a welcome cup of tea served in the guest sitting room within moments of arriving. There is also a great selection of information on Lancaster and beyond. Breakfast was great,,and all this for £33.00 per person per night. The owners are planning to sell up this year, I hope the Shakespeare continues to thrive.

Room Tip: You might ask for a room at the back so as to avoid any noise from the road.

Only stayed for the one night but was lovely.... A lovely welcome and atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable and cosy which was ideal for myself.... Breakfast was great too especially knowing it was freshly cooked to order unlike a lot of buffet breakfasts seen at large hotels. I would stay again when visiting Lancaster again Thankyou. Jo Mc

We stayed at this B&B for one evening because of the Lancaster half marathon. The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful. The cooked breakfast was delicious. The room was nice, clean and very peaceful. It is only a very short walk to the shops / restaurants. We would certainly stay here again.

We stayed for one night whilst visiting our son who is currently living in Lancaster. I spoke to Sally on the telephone prior to our visit and she was extremely warm and friendly and said we were welcome to drop our stuff off and have a coffee before we went to meet up with our son. The Shakespeare is a traditional B&B with warm welcoming hosts and an excellent breakfast. Sally even invited our son to come and join us for breakfast - where else would you get that sort of hospitality these days! Accomodation is clean and simple, which was all we were looking for, and totally met our needs. Sally and Fred are the sort of hosts who care about providing their guests with a good experience.

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor at the back and were not troubled with noise at all. Apparantly there are...
