Description: At the heart of historic Thurnham Hall, The Gressingham Restaurant serves lovingly prepared, traditional home-cooked food in a relaxed and intimate environment. With elegant décor and exceptional service, we offer a wonderful setting for casual dining, family celebrations and more. When you arrive, take a drink in our Jacobean Lounge & Bar – the original ‘great hall’ with an enormous roaring open fire and live pianist several days of the week. Then you’ll be seated in one of two rooms, surrounding our kitchen. At the front of the hall, The Fountain View room looks out past the fountain to serene Lancashire countryside. At the rear of the hall, The Tower Room is part of the original 13th century tower.

“excellent service and beautiful food served in gorgeous surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

We were greeted by Jayne.I think it is a lovely idea to have a name badge.Jayne was very efficient in showing us to a table and the drinks order arrived in minutes! Very refreshing to hear an explanation of the menu and enthusiasm in taking the order. Jim had the hot pork baguette which arrived piping hot and I had the BLT.The flavour of the baguette was outstanding.
Presentation was so professional loved the fries..... but then had no room for the dessert but were persuaded into pots of tea. Definitely will return when back in the area.

Thank you for you lovely review of your visit with us!
We really do like to receive feedback especially when it is as lovely as yours!
The Baguette's are a particular favourite of mine, the Hot pork is by far the most popular dish on our bar & lounge menu and what better than to accompany it than with a fine pot of tea!
Looking forward to seeing you again on your return visit and hopefully this time you can squeeze in a dessert!

“Excellent value and quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

They have a great lunch/ bar menu, and the food is beautifully presented, you get to eat in the great Hall in front of the roaring fire, but the chairs and tables are made for lounging so if you are eating a meal opt for the restaurant. The restaurant is split between a number of cosy rooms in the old hall, the menu has great local choice, again it's beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Good wine choice and well priced. All with friendly and warm service.

I do say it time and time again but we really do appreciate it when people take that little bit of time out of their day and busy lives to leave us feedback on how we are doing.
We are very proud of our wine selection as this is a recent update for us and it's great to hear our selection is being well received. We've tried to ensure there is something for everyones tastes
Thank you for your kind comments about our menus I have shared this with our chef's.
We look forward to seeing you once again hopefully in the not too distant future.

“Pretty Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

Been to all the other Bowland Village Inns group restaurants (Punchbowl, superb; New Holly, recently reinvented, excellent; and The Plough, small pub, very good), so thought we'd try the more upmarket Gressingham restaurant at Thurnham Hall, a 12th century country house now a hotel. with huge Jacobean Hall, massive open fireplace and restaurant rooms with oak beams -- a really beautiful setting, and the menu is the same as or very similar to those in the pubs mentioned above, at the same prices. Service was excellent, quick (although it was very busy) and friendly: a drink in the impressive bar with leather sofas and armchairs by the fire in the Hall, with table service and food orders taken, then called to the restaurant when ready and the drinks were carried through for us -- all you'd expect in a good hotel of course, but this is gastro-pub food so we were impressed. The meals were as in the pubs mentioned and well presented, but perhaps not quite as good this time: black pudding with poached egg were fine, but the mains were a bit of a letdown: the ribeye steak was full of sinews and although cooked correctly as requested and full of flavour, was more chewy than it should have been, and the belly of pork was not crispy on top and the skin and underlying fat were very gooey, but the meat itself was fine. We mentioned the steak's shortcomings and just got the usual "sorry about that" -- on reflection we should have sent it back straight away instead of persevering. It was good that despite being a hotel the wine list is priced as in their pubs, with plenty of good choices at around £13--18. So overall a pretty good meal in fantastic surroundings and we'll be back, hopefully to a better steak!.

Thank you for your recent review!
We are always thrilled to receive feedback on how we are doing and where we can improve on. We are currently reviewing our meat supplier partly due to your review letting us know that it wasn't as up to scratch as we would want it to be. So thank you for bringing this to our attention!
Our Braised pork belly is a slow cooked dish, I'm sorry if it wasn't what you were expecting. We would always encourage our guests to ask as many questions as they like to our team members should they have question or are not sure of something on our menu and they would be only to happy to answer them.
As a group, BVI are delighted that you have visited & enjoyed all of our venues, and that you enjoyed Thurnham so much. It maybe worth mentioning for the benefit of the TA community that Thurnham Hall is a time share resort and not a hotel.
I have shared your comments with the whole team and they are all thrilled you had an enjoyable experience.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

“Good atmosphere but slow service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Lovely place and good food but the service was very slow. The staff were obliging but disappointed we couldn't have a latte or capaccino as the machine was broken. Ironically one of our party owns a commercial kitchen firm who wouldn't have let a customer go a weekend without such an important piece of equipment. There was a singer performing in the bar who whilst good made it difficult for us to have a conversation, not exactly background music. We've been to the other restaurants owned by the same group which are better.

Thank you for your recent review.
We really do appreciate when people take that little bit of time to leave us some comments.
I'm sorry that you we're disappointed you could not have a cappuccino or latte following your meal as you accurately mentioned our machine was indeed broken. Unfortunately this broke on the Saturday evening going into service and an engineer could not get to us with the part. It was subsequently fixed on Monday morning. We were able to offer our guests regular teas and coffees and we would of been more than happy to provide you with some warm milk.
Our lounge entertainment is on weekly on a Saturday and is very popular with on site guest as well as out local diners alike. There is always however seating provided in the Restaurant away from the speakers should guest wish to continue a quieter conversation, you need only ask and our team would be happy to accommodate your requests.
Thank you again for your comments.
