“Just what was needed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

The hotel as per other reviews is dated, room smelled of cigarettes or cigars. BUT! To be honest I don't care, I loved the place it has a certain charm about it. Managed to get the only disabled slot in the car park. Check in was very easy, and the room was as I mentioned, you cant go wrong for the price and some folk moan too much :-)

Christmas has hit the hotel and it was dressed to impress. I loved the lift! Breakfast this morning was fantastic, just what we needed as we have stayed in good quality hotels and found the breakfast to be terrible!

lots of complaints about no wi-fi, maybe some people should open their eyes because yes they have wi-fi!

I will be back, we will stay again.

Thank you to the staff,

Enough said really :-)

Room Tip: the car park is just before the traffic lights and waterstones, small side road on the left don'...

stayed once and seemed okish so give it another go felt like dragging my bed out on to the landing near the bubbling hot radiators as my room was in the attic 4th floor absolute freezing cold wind howling toilet had one of those noisy maserators that went off every half hour for some reason why dont they put some kind of heating in rooms may stop the smell of damp nice location though

Room Tip: if you like cleanliness and warmth this is not for you

From the red, flowery carpet on the staircase with its unhelpfully low bannister, to the Maltese Falcon lift, so replete with instructions for use one quailed to risk stepping inside (even the young Manager refused to use it) the historic Kings Arms, as it used to be known, takes you back to another time and place,a world of vast dining rooms with marbled fireplace and stained glass windows, a library, bath tubs, antique trouser presses set against the bedroom wall, proud to boast Charles Dickens among its former patrons and to list the works he composed after staying there.

Miraculously it functions: noisy of a weekend night, warm by winter's day, with basic but plentiful breakfasts (though no plain yoghurt), rather uncomfortable pillows, endless supplies of hot water. The value is excellent, the rooms extremely clean, the decor frightful, the location central, the coffee surprisingly good. Would I go back? Absolutely!

The Hotel is located in a really good position, close to the town center and to the railway station.
The hall and the breakfast rooms are veri nice and really old style.
Unfortunately some maintenance still need some investiment to be done. But at the end the location and the personnel are so lovely that other things pass through.
The cost are very low. Special for travellers on budget.

Room Tip: Many rooms have the windows n the local castel of Lancaster: don't missing them.

This is my 3rd stay and it's my preferred place to stay 1 or 2 nights in Lancaster. Staff are really lovely, helpful yet professional. When reporting a couple of niggles their response is positive. Plenty of choice at breakfast, cooked or otherwise. A grand and light dining room.
Rooms are very spacious, as are the bathrooms. It's always good value for money compared to other hotels/b & bs in Lancaster. Some people don't like the bits of paint or wallpaper that are flaking, or the vintage lift, but to me it all adds up to a clean and comfortable atmosphere especially for a solo woman traveller.

I had never stayed at this hotel before, though I am very familiar with Lancaster and its surroundings having gone to school there many moons ago. The occasion was a reunion of old school friends and I basically just needed somewhere to kip and as the hotel offered a bed plus breakfast for under £40, it fitted the bill. There was also good parking at the rear. Having booked I looked at the reviews and thought, "oh dear", but as I would be out much of the time didn't really give the reviews much thought. Having suffered an horrendous journey up the M6 I was quickly and efficiently booked in and took the rather quaint old lift up to the first floor. My room 418 was quite small but sufficient for my needs and whilst the furniture was dated it was suitable. I must say the room was absolutely spotless, far more so than some of the more expensive chain hotels I have stayed in and I was pleased to find complimentary soap shampoo etc in a more than adequate and again spotless en-suite. Having quickly changed I attended my function and returned in the wee small hours to be met by a very polite and pleasant night porter. Having slept well -bed was very comfortable - I had another pleasant surprise when I went for breakfast. I had the full Lancashire offering which was freshly cooked, of good quality and very enjoyable. The two staff on duty were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Ok yes, the décor is a bit dated and the hotel is in need of some refurbishment, but it is very clean and tidy and the friendly, polite and efficient staff are big positives. I will most certainly stay here again when I return for our next get together.

Literally 5 minutes from the train station, half that to the Lancaster Castle and near lots of shops and places to eat but not too loud traffic. The lovely Waterstones next door is also nice to kill some time. All staff were very friendly.
The bed might be too hard for some, it was okay for us though. The windows were a bit battered and therefore there was a lot of whistling from the wind all night long. My girlfriend and I could not get onto the wifi anywhere in the hotel on either Apple or android phones.
