“Brilliant in every way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

We had 2 nights, while travelling on the Cumbrian coastal train, the Sun was amazing, just everything that you would want. Wonderful comfy beds, spacious rooms, very helpful friendly staff, great breakfasts, delicious supper and good atmosphere, altogether perfect!

Room Tip: We like a large bed room 26 is on the front a bit noisy on the first night, but not on the second.

we have stayed at this hotel three times. each time excellent value for money. location is central to all the pubs and restaurants. there is plenty of parking around the hotel but fee paying. secure parking is near too around £12 per 24 hours. rooms are modern and clean with all the mod cons. some standard rooms are in the attic ( a few stairs) so make sure if you have stair issues. staff are very helpful and the breakfast is well presented and local produce is most of its contents.

Room Tip: rooms at the back will pick up noise from the beer garden until 1am. then its ok. rooms at the fron...

Stayed in the fantastic Room 16 (which has a charming surprise in the room but you'll have to stay to find out!), whilst on a night out around Lancaster. Fabulous room, with a beautiful bathroom, and the most comfortably large bed we've ever slept in. Didn't eat in the restaurant but the bar does serve a wide selection of real ales if you like that kind of thing. Breakfast has the most choice of any menu I've ever seen and was delicious from locally sourced ingredients. Location is central and yes, there is no car park. There is one very near called Stay safe (or something) and does cost £12, but is totally secure!! Should be for the price I guess. Don't let that put you off staying at The Sun. We can't wait to go back and have a meal. Decor has retained the old charm of the building but rooms tastefully decorated in stylish modern colours. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Room 16 is fantastic. Front of hotel so a little noise from the street but nothing major.

I stayed at the Sun as a treat after a work trip. Terrific hotel (I stayed in the very posh room 16) with a very solid restaurant and bar. The staff could not have been more helpful or charming, and it was an easy 10 minute walk to almost anything, including the train station. I would recommend without hesitation.

Charming old inn right in the centre of the city. Room was very small, but fine for just one night. Good food. Ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Downside is that there's no parking, and the nearby overnight carpark added £12 to the cost of staying there.

We've stayed at the sun a number of times, latest being in July and never had a problem. We stayed both times in the same room which was spacious and had a fab bathroom. Breakfast was a little slow but think we went down at a busy time but staff were polite and kept us informed of the wait. Location is perfect for the centre as it is only a minutes walk to main shops, other bars etc. There is no parking onsite but would recommend the castle parking a few minutes walk from the hotel, although not the cheapest (although which parking is these days?!) this car park allows you to input your bay number into a computer and monitor 24 hours a day until you return to your car. Access to the car park is for those who have cars parked on there also.
All in all if your looking for a modern little hotel close to lancaster centre you can do no wrong in booking this place!!

Me and my better half stayed here for a saturday night while visiting morecambe for a football match. We both thought this was a brilliant place. We booked an exec double which was a lovely, large room with a nice bathroom a wall mounted tv and dvd player with a selection of films and a massive bed. After our trip to the football we went to a nice italian restaurant on the same street as the sun, we also used the yates bar also on church street before going back in the sun hotels bar which was excellent, very cosy with a great selection of real ales and lagers.
The breakfast in the morning was of a high standard with good selection of produce nicely cooked and presented.
All staff at this hotel were all very professional and appeared to be happy in their work.
We found lancaster to be a nice enough place, its got that oldy worldly charm and a good selection of shops, cafes and bars.
A good trip and by the way my football team won........bang on!

Room Tip: our room was no16 .........no problems
