“Hidden gem in the heart of Lancaster”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Stick clear of the chains on Market Street and bob down the alleyway to Sun Square. The Music Room is owned by the Landmark Trust and is a truly fabulous Georgian building, where you can rent the upstairs rooms.

However the square is quiet and a difficult place for a business. But that's changed. Ian Steel and the team from Atkinsons are working miracles in the city and they've turned it into a fantastic coffee shop to match the wonderful building.

The coffee is as good as I've ever had plus a delightful chocolate brownie, and all in wonderful, comfortable, peaceful surroundings. A joy.

“Lovely cafe in a quirky setting.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

The Music Room is a bit hard to find in Lancaster. We wandered around, somewhat lost. But when we did find it, we were utterly charmed by the quirky little square, in front of it.It was very quiet when we went, which was on a Friday afternoon,we chose to sit outside.I ordered a latte and the chocolate cherry cake, which were both delicious. My husband ordered a croissant and a cappuccino. He was delighted with his croissant, but his coffee wasn't as hot as he likes it to be.When he mentioned this to the staff, he was offered a fresh cup of coffee, suitably hot for him.I loved the heart shapes on our coffees and the relaxed, laid back atmosphere .Some flower pots around the square would make the setting even better. We will certainly visit the cafe again.

“Do try to find this place and enjoy the best cup of coffee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

We went to find The Music Room as we knew it to be of historical interest and has been transformed into a holiday let by the Landmark Trust.

We did not know that there was a superb coffee shop on the ground floor with outside table on the small square. They roast their own coffee nearby and have specials every day - I had some Colombian coffee, my wife had Indian coffee. And we could not resist the lovely cakes to go with these wonderful cups of coffee.

Definitely worth finding and timing your visit at coffee or tea time!

“Excellent coffee. Scrumptious cakes.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Visited this cafe after reading trip advisor. It's on a little side street with lots of other cafes. But carry on to end of street and it opens up into a quaint courtyard. There you will discover a coffee shop delivering superb cakes and coffee. I must recommend the pear ginger and custard cake which was out of this world. My other half chose lemon cake which was also delicious. Please try this coffee shop. Keep away from Costa coffee and Starbucks.

“Quirky through and through”

Lovely little coffeeshop in an amazing venue. They serve great coffee, but sadly the cakes are a little bobbins.
