Owner description: Walk through the tiny door of our eighteenth century cottage and be transported to a life without running water, central heating, electricity, or even a loo! You're a world away from modern excesses as you navigate your way around the confines of this humble cottage. Encounter some of the gadgets and utensils that were used in ordinary people's daily lives and get a very different view of historic Lancaster.

“Cute”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

There's a couple of cute tiny museums in Wales, this is the only one in England that I know about. It's a restored property from the 1730's, a tiny little house with period furniture and washroom etc. It takes about ten minutes to go round but only costs a quid to have a mooch.

“Lovely lady inside, with lots of info”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Very quaint and hard to believe how some gentry lived ! was very poor considering our standards now. Liked how they had got so many items together in such a tiny place.

“A change from great houses.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

Opposite Lancaster's magnificent castle is the small cottage museum on Castle Hill. It sets out to show living conditions in Lancaster for the less wealthy.Small, as you'd expect but very interesting. One of 4 museums in the city run by Lancaster's excellent Museums Service.

“The Cottage”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

The cottage is worth seeing. For one pound, you get a sense of how people lived back then. How little they had and how they made life comfortable.
