I visited here on Mon 15 April with my son as he had an interview for a scholarship in Lancaster Uni on the Tue. I booked with expedia as soon as I found the date and got a good deal £80 for the night with breakfast. I only lived 50 mins away but didn't want to fight with the M6 on tue am. I needed a hotel that had its own parking, free wifi & breakfast included. This was what made my decision easy to stay here. With it being the 1 out of 7 hotels I was not too sure if it would be as good a standard as I usually stay in Marriotts. It is better than some!!
Directions to hotel are perfect, basically turn left of the M6, up the road, turn left! On approach I was taken aback at how imposing and impressive the hotel looks. Large electric gates open as you pull up, massive amount of parking, great sized spaces. We were lucky enough to get a space pretty much at the hotel doors. On arrival we checked in, receptionist was so friendly & helpful even with all my questions. We were given our room & it appeared lovely on arrival. Overall the room had a double bed & a single bed which was just under the window. They were both very comfortable There was a stain on the carpet but I informed the reception asap.It appeared not to have air conditioning, I feel it may be very hot in summer, I turned off the electric heating and we were quite comfortable. There was a kettle, hairdryer, iron, everything you would expect. Toiletries are the large ones that can get replaced, much better and more environmentally friendly than those little ones. Generally I would say the room was a little tired but nothing to reduce the opinion of if I would stay again - definitely! It was room 11.Couple of things needed renewing, couple chips of tiles, tiny marks on furniture, but I am convinced they are maintaining the upkeep very well.
The location of this hotel is described as close to the university. I must add that its so close the university is actually built around it, except for the front which has the most spectaculalr views. They let me stay parked in the car park while I visited the University.I can not explain how absolutely stunning this hotel is, inside and out. The hall and reception are set in a grand area, a sweeping staircase, a large open fire with lots of comfortable, cosy sofas to chill on. There is a large friendly bar just off the hall with more tables & sofas, I know they have some new entertaining rooms and I saw a lovely outside area with chairs in a courtyard.
The pool is lovely. Normal size to be expected, indoor hot tub, steam ( think a sauna) but I headed straight outside to the hot tub. Surrounded with decking I sat in there for over an hour ( yes I know health warnings!!) The view from the hot tub was excellent. The lake district, fields, mountains all there to stare at. We were very lucky that the sun was shining down on us but I sure we would have been in the outdoor hot tub even in the rain!!
I know I hassled the staff multiple times for more tea and milk, no problems, they brought lots of milk and teabags all delivered promptly with a smile.
There is a wonderful restaurant called the Foodworks but we went into Lancaster and ate there in a lovely little Italian. There is a bus you can get from the university underpass which takes you into town. I had been under the impression that its just a 20 to 30 min walk but I am very pleased we got the bus. It seemed ages!!
Breakfast was impressive. Yet more amazingly friendly staff who just smiled all the time, offered help too. They were attentive but not "in your face". There was a continental selection, lots of cold meats, fruits, cereals, a large amount of "bread products & bakery". I had masses of fresh fruit, cups of tea, melon balls & a full english. I asked about the sausages ( very fussy) and was told they were local - very tasty though.
After a quick visit to the university us parents were given some free time & I returned to the hotel room. Check out was 11 but they very kindly let me stay till 11.30 which fitted in brilliantly with my plans.
Overall I can not fault this place, I would love to visit. It is a hidden gem and I want to bring all the family. I met a few people who use this hotel for business too and they were also very happy with the suites.
