“A good hotel, with a very warm welcome and great Breakfasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We have stayed at the Scarthwaite a few times now. We have always found it very comfortable and friendly. Breakfast is always great. On the last visit, I left my jacket is a wardrobe and the hotel were kind enough to send it on, to Germany

Room Tip: The rooms at the front and above the bar have the best views, we have never had a problem with noise...

We stayed for one night and although the hotel was very quite we had a wonderful stay, will could not do enough for us, the evening meal was very good along with the breakfast . My wife is a celiac and they were brilliant in accommodating her dietiery needs even making ash browns for her breakfast the room was nice and clean and the bathroom had a whirlpool type bath which was wonderful I would recommend the hotel for anyone requiring a peaceful and relaxing break thank you once again for a lovely stay

We stayed for 2 nights as a first break with our baby.
On arrival we were welcomed by Michael who took us into the lounge and offered tea or coffee in front of a log fire, when I said I didn't drink either an alternative of my choice was offered which was a lovely touch. He advised us on places of interest in the locality and walks before leaving us to settle in.
Our room (River) was of good size as was the bathroom with a corner jacuzzi bath and shower over. It was cold on arrival (and in the morning) but there was a fan heater in the room for our use and the room quickly heated up with this and the radiators. My only complaints with the room were the head board hits the dado rail whenever you turn over which disturbed me on friday so stuck rolled up socks behind and problem solved lol. Second bug bear (and it's the same at all hotels) is the towels are always small and only ever 2 of them so none to wrap a wet head in so as fast as you get dry your hair drips all over you making you wet again, however I'm sure had I asked further towels would have been given!
Breakfasts both mornings were good, limited on the cold side just cereals and yogurt but since I love my cooked breakfasts this didn't matter to me. We also ate Saturday evening at the hotel starter, main and desert all lovely and really good sizes. The waiter on Saturday night was just lovely and friendly. In fact this could be said of all the staff who went out of their way to help you and be friendly without the off putting fawning you get at some places!
The hotel isn't modern or refurbished but its clean and pleasant and I enjoyed staying here and would definately return. It's is well placed for some nice riverside walks which I'd love to do more of in the future. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so nice.

We stayed overnight on a Saturday, just some time to ourselves for a change. We had an evening meal which was excellent very good portions, very well presented and very tasty. The staff were very helpful and very attentive. Our room, whilst dated was comfortable and had everything you need. Breakfast the following morning was excellent lots of choice and served by a very cheerful waitress and on a Sunday morning it was a real bonus. We would use this hotel again and would recommend it to others.

Fraid to say, rather run down, damp and dusty smelling property that would of been modern and in its day in 1975.

Old blue tatty cups and saucers, anaglyptic wallpaper and frosted glass awaits you in reception.

Toilets were old and miserable looking, really need a full refit, hotel was cold and resulted in me walking about with my jacket on.

Food was acceptable and well presented, not on my bucket list for a return vist with the moll, don't think she would be talking to me afterwards.

A warm welcome from a very knowledgeable chap. Tea offered and taken in the lounge with a lovely roaring log fire. When we went to our room we saw why the delay, it was freezing, they don't fire the boiler up until 4pm. Am I being a bit sceptical? It also didn't fire up until 8 the next morning and I'd been up 2 hours by then!
Food was reasonable, the steak perfect, but that's a personal thing.
Car park very big because even though there are only six bedrooms a large ballroom type place at the back is ideal for weddings etc.
All meals are taken in the recently constructed conservatory which again was rather cool but I could see in summer would have lovely views.
Never been to Lancaster before but was quite surprised, lovely people, castle, tidal river and a great folly overlooking everything. Morecome (no doubt spelt it wrong, sorry) hasn't changed much apart from Eric's statue, it's still a cemetery with lights which is a shame as it has a lovely small beach.
Stayed here whilst everywhere in the rest of the country was deep in snow but not here, it seems as though they don't get much snow in these parts, something to do with the gulf stream passing close by.

We stayed here for one night on a short trip to Morecambe, with our small dog and we were made really welcome. The room was spacious, warm and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and bright. We had a good sized TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making and there was a fan heater in case we felt cold.
The bar was cosy with an open fire and a TV. The restaurant was open and the meal we had was really nice. The portions were huge!
We had a full cooked breakfast included in the £65.00 paid, which was also delicious. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, it made us feel really welcome and if we return again to the area we will stay here again.
