“Absolutely brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

This place is brilliant from start to finish. The moment we arrive we arrived we felt very welcomed by the manager. He sat us down and got us our drinks ( the ale was perfect and the wine selection was great). We proceeded to order our food and that arrived steaming hot. It was delicious.
I recommended this place to anyone and everyone. Il be sure to return

We stayed here for one night after returning to Lancaster for our 15th Wedding anniversary having met at uni over 20 years ago. I explained this to the lady I spoke to over the phone when booking. She said she would put us in Room 3, one of their larger rooms with two windows overlooking the river. On arrival, I was disappointed to learn that Room 3 had been given to someone else and we had Room 5; a lovely room if you were around 4 ft tall! I had to almost hug the wardrobe to get from bed into the bathroom! The breakfast was lovely, however!

Room Tip: Room 3 - we did have a peek in the following morning when the room was vacant. Far bigger than Room...

We stayed here before cycling the way of the roses cycle route. The hotel was very clean, and the staff very helpful, well situated for the city centre. We had somewhere to leave our bikes and the breakfast was fantastic.

Room Tip: Road noise at the front of the Hotel

Visited here for a meal one evening. Pub and atmosphere lovely. Staff very pleasant. Service good. My friend and I had the flat mushrooms stuffed with sundries tomatoes and artichoke with salad. The taste was good, however there was 5 lettuce leaves 3 very small flat mushrooms and not much else. If this had been a starter it would have been ok, but this was a main course which cost £10! When we left we were starving. It's a shame as we would have certainly gone back again. But how they can charge that much for a such a small meal is unbelievable.

There to visit the University, booked B&B but so glad we had dinner there the first night, as the food is excellent and great value. Lovely room, small but very tastefully decorated with modern smart bathroom. The staff were all very friendly. Our room looked out at the river Lune, a sunny position, though the traffic can be a bit noisy. We would definitely stay there again when we are in the area. It is close enough to walk to the shops and castle. Recommended.

It was a very wet Friday, we had been for a tour around the Castle Jail and were looking for somewhere to eat a late lunch. This pub was a 5 min walk down some steps. There was plenty of parking if we had needed it outside. We were welcomed into the Wagon & Horses along with our little dog like long lost friends. We were served by a very warm and friendly bar man for who nothing was to much trouble. The landlord and landlady welcomed us and explained a little about the area and how they like to grow their own produce.
The food arrived and was absolutely gorgeous. The plates went back totally empty. I would recommend this pub and return there in a heartbeat.

We went for a snack lunch here at weekend. The result was a very happy bunch of people. 1 fussy child who had the homemade roasted tomato soup and didn't leave a scrap of the soup or the gorgeous bread. 2 other children and I had sandwiches which were absolutely delicious! My husband also had the soup and was as delighted as the rest of us. We shared 2 bowls of yummy chips and we all very happy with our lunches. We were waited on as if we were having a 3 course meal and it didn't matter that we were only having a snack. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The price was budget friendly too! The menu looks amazing and the food that other customers were having looked fabulous. We will definitely go again. Being on the quay brings the bonus points of being able to easily park, a lovely view across the estuary and handy for getting into town too.
