“only eat in here if you like waiting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I agree with the previous reviews I stayed here for 1 night in mid june, check in and the room were fine, parking fine and its very near to the university (UCLAN). A group of us 7 people decided to have a meal in the evening. The restaurant wasn't that busy. We ordered various things from the menu only to be told that they didn't have a lot of the main courses, not many of the starters and a very few of the desserts. The waitress was very embarrassed, it took ages for the food to come and its presentation left a lot to be desired. We kept alive by drinking a good few £12 bottles of wine during the wait for the food. The breakfast was ok again a bit haphazard as there was only 1 member of staff to clean the tables, and welcome customers. Hotel was let down by the restaurant. Its clean, handy hotel just don't eat there.

Room Tip: really don't eat here, i'm not joking

The hotel itself is Ok, centrally situated so can be noisy though with the traffic. Avoid dinner in the hotel. We were a party of 7 on business and most of the items we wanted on the menu were not available. The chef didn't seem to know the difference between a well done and pink duck breast as two of us ordered that and couldn't tell the diference between them - the jus was just grease! Having waited so long for it to arrive felt we couldn't send it back without going hungry.
If we use it again will definitely be eating out - someone recommended a great Thai nearby!

The hotel was booked for me for work - I would not have chosen it. It is located adjacent to the busy road out of town ( as well as being near the university). I changed rooms from a noisy location only to be woken by people in an adjacent room having a loud phone conversation at 5 a.m... The room and bathroom were what one would expect and it was clean but the food was bad. Poor choice of stuff at breakfast - fatty and white bread etc . Poor choice for veggies. Evening meal to be avoided - scant choice for veggies and what there was was swimming in grease.
The sort of place to give 'the north' a bad name.

For the price, ideal. Location - central (if you like cities)! Cheap sloppy beds, very uncomfortable. Premier Inn far better, quality bedding, comfy beds.

Modern but clinical. Just a 'block'. No atmosphere. Cheap skimpy loo roll! Everything, cheap, but couldn't grumble at the price.

Have to say, breakfast in dingy basement was excellent. Fresh, everything you would want.

Room Tip: Near exit!

Would have rated as excellent but for the price of the drinks in the bar and because there was no draught beer/lager.........plus the beer they had in bottles was very expensive, even by usual hotel standards. We did have a snack and the food was tasty.

Staff were excellent, although the night staff member wasn't quite as friendly or chatty, whereas the daytime staff were immediately friendly and welcoming.

The price was better than Holiday Inn and Premier Inn as the parking was free AND it included breakfast so no competition in that respect.

The breakfast was fantastic to say it didn't cost any extra. I am very picky when it comes to sausages but these were delicious and there was plenty of choice in general. Full English, pastries, fruit, yogurts, toast and cereals and although we only had one serving I would imagine you could eat as much as you like. There were also numerous flavours of juice and a good choice of hot drinks too!

The bed was huge, the bedding clean and the pillows were extremely comfortable. We had a great nights sleep and the free toiletries were a bonus! We had a disabled room and the shower was very powerful.

The only downside to our stay was other guests slamming their doors but it didn't stop us having a good nights sleep.................luckily!

All in all we had a great stay, staff were great and we will return again. We were there for a wedding nearby and as we do not live too far away we thought it might work out cheaper than getting a taxi home. It turned out it wasn't (ooops) but we have decided we would return again (as its quite close to us) just to have some "us time" as this is perfectly located to go to pubs or somewhere to eat etc and is great for an overnight stay.

Would def recommend!!!

Room Tip: Disabled room had a "wet room" which was perfect and way better than other disabled rooms...

Stayed here earlier this week. I have stayed before but not for a while. This hotel is clean, modern and close to UCLAN and the city centre . The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a comfortable bar lounge area. All in all a pleasant experience and great value. I will certainly stay again.

Stayed for long weekend over Whitsun. Recommended by friends. A bit difficult to find as Marsh Lane is a one way street. You need to get postcode from hotel and set your sat nav and this will direct you in. Smallish hotel and nice and quiet although only about a 10 minute walk to center of town and market plus 5 to 10 minutes to Friargate and local pubs and restaurants. Large Wetherspoon pub on Friargate for food and O'Niells pub on Friargate. Hotel is surrounded by Student quarters for Preston University so handy for anyone visiting the University. Lovely clean bedrooms, tea and coffee in room, tv, safe, hairdryer, towels, small shampoo, soap and bubble bath. Nice bathroom, shower and bath. Rooms cleaned daily with change of towels and tea bags, biscuits etc replaced. Full English breakfast served till 11am and food to about 10pm in bar in evening. Nice sitting area around Reception. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lift to all floors. Plenty of parking. Would stay again when visiting Preston.
