“great value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

basic rooms, lots of free parking on site, hearty breakfast. This B&B has two wonderful hosts. Minutes away from Abbey, pubs, and the weir.
When arriving the front looks very uninviting but when you drive around the back you see a lovely entrance by the car park.
Pets accepted :-)

Well it wasn't what I expected. The Hotel is in a fantastic position, close to the Abbey and two mins from the high street. The parking is ample and entry is ok. The breakfast was good, although the dining area was like a building site! That's the good stuff! The rest is down hill really. The rooms are very dated and the bed was not great. The furnishings are also very dated and the general feel is old and very tired. With some TLC this place could be hugely improved. Would I stay again? Probably not. For £10 more I could've stayed at the Hop Pole or the Bell. This place may appeal to the older person but not to me. Sorry

Booked this town centre hotel last Wednesday for Saturday night as it seemed all other hotels were booked up. This is not your corporate style hotel, it's locally owned, and to be honest my room felt more like a spare room in someone's house than a sanitised, soulless box. Having said that the proprietor, Lorna, was really pleasant and friendly and the hotel had a lovely, warm feeling about the place which certainly added to our stay. Breakfast isn't corporate either - lovely, relaxed setting, superior quality food cooked to order and served at your table. We've stayed in Premier Inn, Purple hotel, Golf club and the Hop Pole in the past and will certainly be using this one again.

Room Tip: rooms at the rear of the hotel are quieter

The beauty of a hotel like this is you know you aren't in for the same old boring, sterile experience you would get staying in a budget chain hotel.
On arrival (with our westie who was made very welcome) we were asked, by a charming but clearly hard of hearing gentleman, why we were visiting. I explained in some detail that we were in the area for meetings prior to our wedding, at the end of the explanation the gentleman said 'oh, just catching up with some friends then'. Not what I had said at all but a nice humorous and cheerful greeting nonetheless.
The location is perfect for Tewkesbury with the town centre to the left and a river walk to the rear and parking is good too.
Breakfast was relaxed and informal and was better than any other offering that I think you would get for the same price.
Bed was very comfortable. Building has loads of character.
All in all for straightforward b&b in a great location, with plenty of personality, this is a perfect choice.

I booked a last minute w/end away with late rooms, going that day. I came up with Abbey Hotel Tewkesbury. There's an easy car park at the rear and a friendly welcome. The room overlooked the carpark and was large, comfortable and quiet. It's not a luxurious Hotel, the furniture is a bit hotch potch but it's quite small (10 rooms I believe), clean, friendly, comfortable It's centrally located for walking along the river or going into town. The included breakfast was satisfactory and we will certainly go back.

Easily best value in Tewkesbury, it may not be quite as fancy as some of the other small b&b's but considering the price we were pleasantly surprised. Nicely furnished rooms, warm atmosphere, helpful owners and above all brilliant convenient location opposite the abbey and with a car park. Breakfast left a little to be desired but it fills you up for the morning and what more can you ask for from a place that's at least £30 less than the next B&B along the road.

I called up to enquire about accommodation availability at the hotel.

Hotel: "Hello"

Me: "Hello, can you tell me when you next have accommodation available?"

Hotel: "What?"

[Me thinking the line must have been bad.]

Me: "Sorry, hello, can you tell me when you next have accommodation available?"

Hotel: "...What??"

[Me thinking the line must really be bad.]

Me: "Sorry, can you tell me when you next have accommodation available?"

Hotel: "...What the hell does that mean??"

[I realised the line must be fine, was he just being rude?]

Me: "'What the hell does that mean'?... Are you a hotel?"

Hotel: "Yes"

[Realised he was just being rude?]

Me: "And do you have accommodation?"

Hotel: "Um, yes?"

Me: "When do you have accommodation available for?"

Hotel: "All of next weekend onwards."

Me: "Okay, I guess that answers my question then! Thanks."

Hotel: "Pr*ck"

[Hotel hangs up]

It was difficult to book a room, but the prices look really good, so I was kind of gutted that the guy hung up.

I think he might have been having a bad day or that he thought I was being rude or condescending - but still, it's a really weird way to treat people who call up with enquiries. I'd have booked a room if he'd carried on talking to me.

Maybe next year.

Room Tip: Be very clear on the phone, and if you really want to book a room, try calling back
