“Travelodge? Really?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

I am always sceptical when I have to stay in a Travelodge as in the past some of them have been awful but I had little choice when I had to book in here.

It was a little hard to find as it's tucked away and the signs at night aren't great but I got there!

The hotel looked to be a fairly new build and on entering the reception etc was pleasant enough. The receptionist also had to staff the bar and take food orders so she was a bit busy which delayed the check in by about 10 mins.

I got my room and was pleasantly surprised. It was a very big room. Very clean and had a fresh feel. It felt like a Premier Inn not a Travelodge.

The bed was so comfortable.

I had the window open and the road noise is quite loud but given the location it is convenient to the motorway etc so what did I expect?

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as if this is the way Travelodge is going then they should make a come back. Well done!

Stayed here as part of a work trip and not by choice. Found it hard to find initially as off the main road and not signposted juts in an estate.
Reception was ok although a bit abrupt.
Room was bulk standard and smell hit me even before I entered it as the corridor was filled with something in the air - not pleasant.
I've given it 3 stars for the shower and good sleep and also the price.
These aside, I didn't enjoy walking bare foot as kept getting dirt/grit on my feet.

We are truly sorry to learn of the difficulty you had in finding our Tewkesbury Travelodge Jon D. We do aim to provide a map and directions for each of our hotels on our website, however we will be passing your comments onto the hotel manager with regards to the signage of the hotel as well as the other issues you have raised. We also require our staff to follow a strict routine in the cleaning of our rooms and we would expect them to be cleaned to our high standards. Similarly, our cleaning staff are expected to routinely check all our rooms and public areas and to notice any smells. If an area is not found to meet with our high standards of cleanliness then we will air the area thoroughly and notify the Hotel Manager if necessary.

We use Travelodges quite a lot but even disregarding the cheap price this is one of the best that we've stayed in. The rooms have been refurbished and are better fitted out and larger than many. The dining/bar area is also more pleasant than most others. There is also a Brewer's Fayre, Elmbury Lodge, about 100 yards away which is handy and just off the M5 at Juntion 9 the Lodge is easy to find.

This hotel has the dreamer beds and I did in fact enjoy a very good nights sleep.

The room was large and well presented. There was a nice bar area showing the football which is always a plus for me!

Breakfast was not included in the price of the room which I was a little disappointed with as I know quite a few hotels include this in the room fee.

It was very reasonably priced, the staff were friendly and helpful, car parking was no problem.

All in all one of the better Travel Lodges I have stayed at.

This travelodge has been recently refurbished with new Dreamer beds which ensured an excellent nights sleep. Also in the refurbishment process they fortunately forgot to fit the water saver showers (again excellent).

After a good nights sleep the breakfast area was a disappointment as the tables had not been revarnished which gave them a very scruffy appearance as the remaining varnish was patchy as it was wearing off. All in all a very pleasant stay - quiet and peaceful despite being quite close to the motorway.

This hotel wasn't originally built by Travelodge so it started off quite nice from the beginning. Nice colour schemes with a bit of style about the place, unlike the bland sterile hotel rooms that Travelodge usually give you. No fluorescent light fittings in this hotel. But, just recently, they've started making changes to the rooms and they're starting to ruin it, gradually they're turning it into one of their cheaply supplied hotels, cost cutting is evidently coming in whenever work is being done. Even a simple thing, like the nice little 'tea/coffee station' that was once in all the rooms, has now been done away with, and the kettle has been moved to the desk, along with the lamp and TV etc. Why not leave it as it was? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Don't scrimp Travelodge.
And why oh why do Travelodge still charge for WiFi? You get free WiFi at every coffee shop and cafe in town, for the price of a Latte. Yet you can pay up to £100 for a room and still have to pay extra for WiFi, even if you've got a business account with them.

We are very sorry to learn of your disappointment Matthew S. We can confirm that our Tewkesbury hotel has just received a refurbishment in line with our new brand standards. We do supply a kettle and coffee and tea making facilities, if guests require more these can be requested from reception. Our Wi-Fi service is offered through one of our partners called Arqiva which this is offered free of charge in our bar café area for guests to use.

Stayed for 2 nights and received gear service from all the staff but particularly Clive who recommended a great pub nearby where the Abbot Ale wZ as good as it gets! The room was bright clean and comfortable for a good nights sleep.
