I chose this place because it provided locally sourced freshly produced food & because my sister & brother-in-law were visiting from the US & wanted to eat fish & chips in a country pub & despite it being December (when many venues only serve their Christmas menus) this establishment actually catered for all our requirements.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the landlord, his very friendly family dog & a member of staff. We were seated immediately by a waitress. The venue was very clean despite it being the end of the day & parking was on site & easily accessible.
I ordered vegetarian lasagne, the rest of my party ordered fish & chips & lambs liver & bacon - because they wanted traditional English food. As expected with fresh food, we had to wait but we had the right amount of time to order drinks, starters & have time to converse - which was perfect. When our main course was served the landlady came over to check if everything was ok. All the staff were very friendly & courteous without being intrusive. The food was excellent & although quite full, we were then tempted by the dessert menu. We only chose 2 desserts between 4 of us but were bought additional spoons & plates without hesitation or problem.
In short, this is an excellent pub. The food was well presented & tasty, The venue was charming. The staff were welcoming & went out of their way to help us - including questions about the food, drinks & generally. I would have no hesitation in returning again & in fact, have already recommended it to some of my friends.
Well done & thank you to all the staff for making our visit so enjoyable.
