Denise and Simon arrived at The Wheatsheaf a little over a year ago and continue to impress! They have transformed this previously mediocre pub into a lovely pub and restaurant, and I can only imagine how delighted must be the residents of Bow Brickhill. If you live or work in the Milton Keynes area and haven’t been the Wheatsheaf – go!
Simon is an outstanding chef with a classic repertoire of dishes; he has had an accomplished career as executive chef in many top UK restaurants and hotels. Simon’s menu regularly changes reflecting the seasons and finest market produce available.
Denise runs front of house and with her team always provides a warm welcome followed-up with professional and friendly service. The atmosphere is lovely attracting couples, families and business people. Sunday lunch is very popular and it is increasingly difficult to get a table on Friday or Saturday nights (my only complaint) – so booking in advance is recommended.
Our last visit, on offer was a great range of beautifully prepared dishes including home made terrines, oysters, venison, duck, fresh scallops, Mediterranean prawns, Dover sole and excellent vegetarian options. Plus lovely home made desserts.
I enjoyed brilliantly prepared fresh scallops with a mango salsa followed by a perfectly cooked ‘pink’ rack of lamb with rosemary and fresh vegetables. My wife enjoyed some lovely king prawns with garlic butter followed by her favourite sea bass fillets with a cream sauce. I skipped dessert in favour of a well-presented cheese selection, while my wife was delighted with profiteroles and warm chocolate sauce.
The wine list caters for all tastes and we enjoyed a sensibly priced and excellent Rioja Gran Reserva.
The Wheatsheaf is an ideal venue for any occasion: business lunch, special celebration or a mid-week treat.
Overall, entirely delighted to have a decent pub and restaurant on the south side of Milton Keynes; The Wheatsheaf in Bow Brickhill is easily accessible from Bletchley, Leighton Buzzard, Woburn Sands, Woburn and surrounding areas.
