I booked a room with breakfast for £47 at the hotel, 3 weeks before I had to attend a conference a the OU. The hotel is situated very close to the Open University and that was ideal location for me. On arrival I was provided with the key card to my room (a queen room) which seemed very decent and I was all ready to settle in when I used the loo and discovered the flush was broken and did not work. I phoned the reception who after some wait, told me they could either send someone up to have a look at it and fix it or they could offer me smaller rooms as they had no other queen rooms available. I actually went down and looked at these rooms they had. I did not like either of them. I liked my room which was bright and spaces. So I asked if they could send someone to fix the flush. They assured me they would send someone very quickly. Half an hour later, I decided instead of waiting, I would go for swim in their super mini pool. On my way I reminded the receptionist and asked them to please sort the problem while I was at the pool. When I got back, nothing had been done. So I phoned again and this time I reminded them, that due to the nature of the problem, they could offer me an upgrade if they did not have a room like the one I was in. They told me they were fully booked and had no upgrades available and also mentioned (now 2 hours after first complaint) that due to it being the weekend and all, there were no maintenance people around to fix the loo flush. So reluctantly, I agreed on moving to the less agreeable room. As I got in, I asked the receptionist who the manager was that night and that I liked to have a word with them. Surprise, surprise, 30 second later, she phoned my room saying now they had an upgrade available and if I was happy they would move me up to it. Everything else went OK. Lovely king size room. But again when it came to have a shower in the morning, the shower control did not work. It was loosely attached and when I turned it to turn on the shower, it just unscrewed letting water out of a screw on the wall. Needless to say this is one hotel, way past its time for renewal and improvements. But for the price I had paid it was almost worth the hassles I had to go through before I could put my feet up and relax. Breakfast was normal Hotel quality. Bread was nice and fresh & waiters very friendly. I might book there again in the future, in the hope that next time, I have a room with a working loo and shower but again, I might go for somewhere else.

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. I was sorry to hear about the inconvenience of a room move, and your subsequent frustration with an upgraded room being unavailable at the time of your request. Furthermore, I have shared your feedback with regard to the shower in your second room and corrective action has taken place. We do have an ongoing refurbishment programme at the hotel where a number of our bathrooms are currently being updated with new showers and fitments, in order that we meet our guests expectations, and I do hope that you will return and have a better experience next time.
I was pleased to hear that you found the price competitive and that you were able to relax and enjoy your breakfast and the friendly service from our waiters, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
