This is our "local", even though we dont go there that often as it isnt quite within walking distance. The pub is always busier than any other pub at any given time of the day. For example, it is moderately busy during week day lunch times and is packed during the day on the weekends. To me, the presence of kids puts me off, but for families this is obviously a positive.
They serve a large selection of ales (albeit bottled) including River Cottage Stinger (the only pub i have ever been to which sells it). It is a typical brewery owned pub though; i.e if you ask for Coke with no ice, you dont get a full glass of Coke (its a pre-set volume dispensed from the pump and allows for ice in the glass), they dont top it up to the top of the glass. Prices are average for a chain-run pub.
I havent ever had a full on 3 course meal from this pub, but i have had their burger for lunch once and have had chips, cheesy garlic bread and their sharing chilli cheese chips. Their burger was pretty poor from what i remember of it, but the other dishes were average; nothing special or unique really.
The building itself is lovely; thatched roof and exposed wooden beams inside with furnishings which are in keeping with the building.
All in all, if this pub didnt get quite so busy, and if it didnt get so loud with kids running about then i would visit it more often. Whilst this maybe off-putting for me (young-ish couple without kids), this pub is definitely suitable for families (and the last time i visited, someone had a dog with them, so it is also dog friendly).
