Description: The Sun Inn, situated in Dummer, South of Basingstoke, continues to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Head Chef Gordon Stott. Still only 23, Gordon is one of the youngest chefs in the country to run his own pub after taking over as Landlord and Head Chef in February 2012, where he is ably supported by a similarly young but experienced team. All produce is locally sourced, and food cooked fresh on the premises to order.Drinkers are catered for with a wide variety of high-quality ales, many of which are supplied by the local Triple fff Brewery.

“Menu too sparse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

went to the Sun last night and was impressed with how the place has been 'done up'. The new winter menu had just been introduced, we like to see a small menu as it usually indicates that the dishes will be executed very well however it could really do with a couple more choices per course than the current 5(?), for instance my wife enjoys fish to start but there was only a shellfish dish available. The mains we had were a pork chop and braised lamb for me, both were excellent, we could not fault the cooking and the wine was very reasonably priced. Would we return?? Unfortunatley there was only one dish on each course that appealled to me so the problem with the seasonal menus is that we would not return until next season's is introduced.

“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

For great food just beautifully presented - I would happily recommend this to anyone. Pale wood floors and a modern decor all add to a great ambience. Great, friendly staff also.

“Much better than previous visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

Although we have passed the pub many times we have not eaten there since the bad old days of previous owners quite a few years ago. We went with friends for dinner and were very happy with our "return". The A La Carte menu although not extensive had something for everyone. It was freshly prepared, very tasty and extremely well presented. Staff very friendly, efficient and knowledgible of all products, both food and drink wise. I would have given it 5/5 but there is a lack of restaurant type comfort and the tables & chairs gave a slightly "café ish" feel. This would not stop us returning as the food made up for this.

“Great Gasro Pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

Visited the Sun Inn again after a gap of three years or so. Last time we went there it was a rather tired pub. This time very different! Had the Chicken Liver Parfait Served with Grape Jelly, Onion Marmalade and Toasted Brioche - really succulent shredded chicken. Looked a bit pale on the slate dish but tasted delicious! Followed up with the Rib and Loin of Lamb Served with Crushed New Potatoes, Celeriac Puree, Sauté Broad Beans and a Red Wine Jus. Again a really tasty dish - probably the most tasty lamb I have ever had! Like the chicken starter the meat was shredded and this time served in a pressed "pot" shape. Really attractive.
Staff very friendly but like the comments from seb666 the restaurant does lack a "warmth." Fix this and I'm sure the Inn will receive an excellent rating next time!!
