I recently attended a friends wedding at the Audleys Wood hotel. I was told that wedding guests would get special room rates if they stayed over, so not wanting to seem stupid when I called up, I did a bit on on-line research in advance about types of rooms and prices! I am so glad that I did! Even though I informed them that I was attending a wedding and that I was told that they would offer special rates, the first one they offered was much higher than on their own website or booking.com, When I questioned that price they gave me another one that was the same as booking.com! When I advised them that I could get the same deal on another website they offered a slightly reduced price - so why not just offer this one in the first place? I do think that a hotel such as this should not advise they are going to offer wedding guests special rates if the first thing they do is offer a higher one!
Anyway, on to the hotel itself. It is set in stunning grounds, and is such a lovely building, even the extension that has been added for the additional bedrooms is in keeping so not spoiling the over all look. The staff are ALL very polite and will do anything to help, I can not praise them enough. The food was excellent and the breakfast was of a VERY high standard that even the hotel inspector would not be able to find fault! The bed are VERY comfortable, and the pillows are nice and plump. Although overall the whole wedding and stay was most enjoyable, there are a few things (details) that they really should keep an eye on:
1. Damage in the rooms! In our bathroom it was obvious that the toilet roll holder had been moved, but the old holes had just been filled in, not sanded down or painted back to match the rest of the bathroom. They was a chip out of the toilet seat and the bathroom door lock was missing!! Also, the hems on the nest curtains in the room were all frayed and coming down and there was even what appeared to be a couple of fag burns in them! I can only assume that someone had been smoking out of the window and caught them.
2, I the conservatory where the service, dinner and evening do took place, there is a semi circle window in the back wall (above the fire exit) which had enough cobwebs and dead flies that I thought they might have been left over from Halloween! I know that some of you reading this will think I am being picky, but details like this matter when you are paying so much.
3. The table used as an alter/top table during the service was placed in front of a fire exit, and although not a problem it itself, when you look back at all the photos taken all you can see is the doors push bar going right down the middle of the images. You would have thought that some one (the wedding planner/hotel manager) would have thought of putting a curtain over the door (that can be drawn back) even if just when wedding services are taking place!
All in all though I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a a weekend away, with a touch of luxury in a quite location, as it ticks all the boxes.
Ask for a first floor room, as they can be a little warm and it is nice to be able sleep with the wi...
