My husband and I visited the Heritage Centre yesterday in the driving rain and cold. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by Leon, the owner, and Mark, who showed us round outside.
First of all we went into Fred's workshop, where had a talk from Leon, explaining how he came to buy the property. The workshop itself is very interesting, we felt as though Fred had just left it. We saw his boots and a couple of familiar jumpers, which he'd worn in the documentaries.
Then we were we taken outside for a tour of the yard, Mark can do a superb impression of Fred, we almost felt we were taking to a younger Fred. He was very informative and made it really interesting.
We had a drink in the house and it was nice to be able to see inside.
We then had a talk by Alf, a surprise visitor, who was often in the documentaries about Fred. He made it interesting and fun, we got an inside glimpse of Fred the man himself.
We were able to take photographs and ask lots of questions, there are some interesting things to buy too.
We had a really enjoyable visit, we didn't feel rushed and were there for a total of 2 1/2 hours. Leon deserves success with this project as it's his life's work and his enthusiasm is catching.
