OK...lets start out by stating a simple fact that paying the price you pay for one nights stay PLUS 14 nights parking, you KNOW that you will not be luxuriating in 5 star accomodation.
So the pro's and cons of Ifield Court Hotel.
Convenient as an overnight stop when having an early morning flight from Gatwick and the plus of having a (relatively) secure place to park the car as part of the deal makes the place very attractive.
We booked our stay and parking through Holiday Extras in January this year paying £81.49. As already stated, on the face of it VERY good value for money. We arrived at about 18.00 on the evening of our stay and after being checked in quite efficiently at reception were given the key to our room...Room 11. This is a VERY small double and with two large suitcases plus hand luggage, there is perilously little space to move around the room. The bathroom was very small, but again for an overnight stay you don't need a spacious room. The carpet is very definitely past its best with what appear to be bleach stains in several places. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were good quality and the pillows offered good support. We both slept well! The room itself though really needs a thorough makeover and if the owners are not prepared to spend out on that, then at least give the carpets a thorough clean and a *proper* deep clean of all the areas where dust has accumulated over the years.
So we went down to the bar for a pre dinner drink. I spotted the Guinness pump and thought 'a nice cold pint of draught Guinness...that will hit the spot!', so I ordered a pint of Guinness and turned to my wife to ask her what she fancied. Out of the corner of my eye noted the barman pouring the Guinness from a can. I said I wanted draught his response was "sorry it's off". What a shame that he didn't think of mentioning it *before* opening the luke warm tin and pouring. I guess I could have refused it, but after a 120 mile drive in rush hour around the M25 I really couldn't be bothered with the aggravation.
The meal in the restaurant. I can only suggest that it might be a sound idea to employ a chef who has mastered the art of sourcing and preparing fresh ingredients. The meal we had would not have disgraced a pub meal in the 1970's, but todays consumer does expect a shade more! With 20/20 hindsight I guess we should have driven down the road to one of the pubs we passed on the way in! Whilst the food was not brilliant, it was just passable. What was NOT passable was when we ordered coffee to finish the meal, one expects filter cofee. The coffee was bought out to us by the barman and bought a tray with cofee pot, two cups and milk (not cream!). We poured the coffee and my wife spotted immediately that we had been given instant coffee. Now again if we had been told that their Filter machine had broken down it would not have been an issue, we would have had coffee in our room for free, BUT to pay filter cofee prices for a cheap quite unpleasant instant coffee really is not playing the game. Now I suppose we should have raised the issue at the time, but again we don't believe in making a fuss unless we feel we have been really disadvantaged. I did say to my wife "OK that is two strikes, third strike and the story goes on Trip Adviser!"
We had booked our taxi for 03.30 and our alarm went off at 03.00 we were ready to walk down to reception at 03.25, a knock on our door and it was the night receptionist letting us know our taxi was here. We checked out and the receptionist asked if everything was OK with our room, I obviously told him that we felt the room was a bit tired and really could do with a tidy up. His reply amazed me - "Yes, it does need a bit of a refresh doesn't it? Sorry that we had to use this room, but we normally only use it for late bookings when we are really busy".
Sorry guys! That was your third strike! We booked with Holiday Extras on the 22nd January 2013 at 15.11 please do not try and convince me that you were fully booked for the 1st July at this stage of the game!
So...good for cheap parking and comfortable if not spacious overnight accomodation but avoid the restaurant and bar like the plague! There must be better places to eat just down the road.
Unfortunately despite it's fantastic location close to Gatwick and the building itself is beautiful, I doubt we will return!
STRONGLY advise that you check with reception that the room you are allocated has been refurbished!!

Dear guest i apologise that we let you down in so many areas. The room you stayed in (room 11) is as you described and one of the next rooms we hope to renovate when time and finances allow. Regarding your visit to the bar; we do have a Guinness pump but it is not draught; that should have been explained; that said i am a Guinness drinker and find our system excellent and very drinkable; apologies it was not to your liking however and again i apologise this was not made clear to you on order. To clarify it is a draught can not regular and our clever machine that vibrates the glass creating the head is clever; it should have been chilled and again apologies; that is not acceptable and will be dealt with as a policy. I am sorry you feel our restaurant to have been so poor; we are working hard on improving in all areas since taking over in October last year but clearly we are not there yet! The coffee problem is not excusable; apologies; our coffee machine had broken down and you should have been told so and offered a free regular coffee. Going back to the room it is true that we try not to use this room and we are looking at a fairer allocation system so those like you are better served; apologies again. I do hope you will give us another chance and should you do so please let me know and i will personally ensure we give you a far better experience and do something to compensate your for this fairly disastrous stay. Apologies again and thank you for your review and custom.
