“B&B From Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2010

We were desperate as Gatwick was closed and we had to find overnight accomodation near the airport. Believe me I would have to be Double Desperate to stay there again.
I simply cannot list all the faults but these should give a hint as to how bad it was....Dated, dirty, unsafe, smelly (heating oil), cold and unwelcoming.

We booked this from their own web site, where the place looked fantastic, for a one night stay and car parking while on holiday. What a disappointment when we arrived, the place is filthy, loads of little mats ( carpet samples) everywhere which was a trip hazard if I ever saw one. Room was cold, and very bare not at all like the pictures on site. Wallpaper peeling off in bathroom. No bedside light so had to turn light off at wall and then get into bed. But this was not the worst, when we next saw Gino, he said here is £9.00 get a taxi to the airport tomorrow, I will call but you pay. Website says 24 hr transfer. Do you want breakfast? We had paid for bed and breakfast so "yes". On the site it said breakfast from 70'clock. when I said we wanted breakfast about 7:15 he said no tomorrow I am not doing breakfast til 7:45 or 8:00!!!! I leave bread. Breakfast was just that cheap sliced white bread, and marg, make your own tea or coffee, we ate nothing. End of holiday, and our flight was delayed, rang from crete to Gino, said we would be arriving 3am, response "NOT MY PROBLEM". You will have to get a taxi, I do not pick up that time. WEBSITE SAID 24 HOUR TRANSFER. Eventually sorted out would leave car keys in exhaust of car, and gave me taxi number to ring. Landed cold, miserable, at Gatwick, and rang taxi . Got to guest house all in darkness had to pay £15 for the taxi !!! We have emailed Gino since return saying we wanted our taxi paid and have heard nothing. DO NOT STAY IN THIS PLACE.

In January 2007, we booked our reservation from the USA for 2 double rooms for 4 nights in October 2007. We received confirmation from the owner/manager 2 days after booking.

When we arrived on October 9 around 4:30 in the afternoon, the manager informed us that there were no double rooms available in the main house and that the owner had decided to put us in the "cottage". We were required pay in advance prior to seeing the "cottage".

The manager then took us to the cottage which was freezing cold, smelled like mothballs, the kitchen and bathroom were filthy dirty, had mold in the corners of both bedrooms, and half of the light bulbs did not work. We complained to the manager who called the owner and we were told that there was no other option.

Because the other couple has allergies to mold, they left , found other accommodations and checked out that night but they still haven't received a credit for their 4 nights of lodging. We were stuck for one night because of taxi arrangements with another group for the next day but then were able to find accommodations elsewhere for the 3 remaining nights. We have not received credit from the manager for the lodging.

We lodged a dispute with VISA through our bank and were unable to receive reimbursement for the charges. However, because we saved all of our correspondence from the time that we made the reservation, we were able to prove to our bank that the owner's response to our dispute was not truthful.

I would not recommend this motel to anyone. This property was grossly misrepresented.

When you book this place you are welcomed buy a not very plesant e-mail that states they have a 50 % non refundable deposit independent of length of time give to cancelations. I have never stayed anywhere that inforced such a policy. The accomadation is also nothing like what the pictue suggest.

A real mess sums this place up. got there, and had to double check we were in the right place as the pics on thier site are not what it actually looks like.
All the grounds are overgrown, there are dumped cars in the carpark that looked like they had been there 10+ years, all weeds growing over them etc.
The curtains in the windows were dirty, and all around unappealing to us. even though we had already paid the full price for an evening, we refused to stay here and found ourselves another hotel.
It looked like something from a horror film!

On arrival at da vinci manor we were very dissapointed. The guest house is very much in need of refurbishment. The outside is a mess and the room was in a bad state of repair. The plugs were charred black, the bathroom was very outdated and shabby. There were spiders in the room and the toilet brush was disgusting.
The staff were friendly and service was good - obviously the owners.
The breakfast was disapointing everything was from a value range and for £110 a night I would have expected some better quality items and persanal touches. eg napkins rather than Value tissues on table , butter not value marg. Hp sauce not value tesco.
Taxi is £10 extra each way, but beware it the owner in his own old car. I didn't feel safe!
If you do stay here there is a fab pub 5 mins walk which serves lovely evening meals.
