“Return visit number 3”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

Remains a good choice for an overnight before an early/after a late flight.

Very efficient check-in. Busy at reception desk but more staff magically appeared. Management visibility in reception, even helped hold open the door and returned the luggage trolley for me (assume that was who he was, had a suit on!)

It was pretty quiet when we stayed with only a few Emirates flight crew and handful of lone business travellers stopping over.

You are recommended to ask for a room away from the rear to avoid slight noise of railway line.

Rooms are of very good quality and, for the price, this is an excellent choice of hotel…even if it isn't right next to the airport.

Needed a last minute place to stay. Reasonably priced. Bit far from the airport (it's in Crawley, not Horley), but that wasn't an issue for us. Quiet, very nicely laid out rooms and public spaces. Only issue was there was no external windo in our room. Instead, the window looked out over an internal courtyard. SLightkly claustrophobic. But no complaints.

Room Tip: Avoid the courtyard facing rooms!

We have stayed here many times before going on holiday, we find the onsite parking etc convenient and the rooms are comfortable, felt the main bar had lost some of its ambience
this time though. We went into the pub and ordered a pint a glass of wine and 2 burgers £40
which we thought a tad steep. But still enjoyed our evening and the transfer to the Airport
in the Morning was easy.

Have stayed at many hotels in the Gatwick area prior to a flight the next day, found this hotel to be really good, the rooms were clean and everything you would need in them, the staff on reception were very polite and helpful. We decided to take a steam in the spa area after spending half an hour in the gym, the spa area is very clean and new but the steam room didnt really get very hot or steamy and there was no one around to ask, so we took a sauna instead, however there isnt anywhere by the heat rooms where you can get a drink of cold water, even the changing rooms have only a hot tap so not being able to hydrate whilst taking the sauna this is not really advisable so we had to cut it really short, a water cooler should be a must in a spa area. We went to the hotel's pub and had a tasty meal, it was all fresh home cooked food and was good value for money, we didnt eat in the restaurant as it was a bit pricey as in most hotel restuarants but heard others say it was very good. I would definately stay again at the Arora and eat at the lovely pub, we had thought about going to Zizzi's in Crawley Town Centre a short walk away, but as it was raining we didnt bother and glad we hadnt. The car parking package was also very good, we had to drive to Airparks the next morning which was about ten minutes short drive away and then leave our keys whilst we got a transfer bus to the north terminal, all went very smoothly.

A decent hotel, large rooms, good size beds and large flat screen tv.

The hotel has a reasonable gym with sauna and steam room, but lacks a pool. It's well enough equipped for a hotel gym, but staff seemed pretty disinterested.

Food in the restaurant was very good indeed, the set menu was really enjoyable, but the service let the hotel down. It was late when I arrived and I was one of the last to order in the Grill restaurant and it felt like the staff couldn't wait for the shift to end.

The hotel offers free internet, but it is so slow it is next to useless and I wouldn't pay to upgrade for the 'premium service'. In the end I switched to tethering off my 3G phone, as it was much faster. If hotels advertise free wifi, it should be at least faster than a mobile phone connection.

There are a good range of hospitality options though, with the Grill, a pub and a coffee shop, plus a shop selling essentials, which is useful if arriving late.

Overall the hotel is 'good' rather than ''very good'. It's certainly above average and good value so close to the train links to London (there is even direct access to the platforms from the hotel).

I'd certainly recommend for anyone travelling from Gatwick as an overnight.

Room Tip: I had a room overlooking the atrium and it was very quiet.

Doesn't quite hit the excellent category but nonetheless pretty good.

A good town-centre location but some way away from Gatwick Airport if staying there pre or post flight.

My room was clean, comfortable but perhaps edging on side of being a liitle dated. No real concerns though as only staying overnight for the one night.

On the whole staff were accommodating and pleasant, however, reception staff did differ considerably between check-in (excellent) and check-out (average).

All in all I would definately recommend the Arora, possibly not the top of my list for Gatwick hotels but there or thereabouts.
