“Very Good hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

The Arora is right next to Crawley Station, from where you can get a direct train to Gatwick Airport in 10 minutes or Central London in less than an hour. There's a back entrance to the hotel which literally opens on to the platform. So it's a very convenient place to stay. It's well presented and as they claim it has an Airport Hotel feel with a lot of people moving in and out at all times of day. Rooms were a good size and very clean. There's a large atrium lounge area, with a coffee area and bar, and an outdoor terrace for good weather. Staff were good and the place felt family friendly. The Restaurant was excellent, both for breakfast and dinner. There is a second bar, called Morgans, which is a bit of a sports bar and not to my taste but seemed quite popular.Only hesitation was the price of drinks. It is a hotel so you expect price to be higher than average, but £8.50 for a large glass of Pinot seemed a bit high. This is Crawley after all! Also be aware that the window of a lot of bedrooms looks straight into the central indoor atrium. They're sufficiently high that it isn't a problem but if you want an outside view you should ask. Fair to say that I think their website gives a good feel for the place. We spent three nights here over a Bank Holiday weekend and it was a very relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: Some rooms have views straight into the atrium / lounge area. They're far above ground level so...

Stayed here for two nights this week as working in the area. Rooms perhaps a little dated but extremely clean and were well appointed with fridge, hairdryer, iron, kettle, large lcd tv etc. The bathroom had a seperate bath and shower and was very clean, linens and towels good quality. The set dinner was unexpectedly good ata reasonable price, however the drinks were extortionate! A soft drink was £3 but the cheapest bottle of wine was £21 which is on the steep side in my opinion. Breakfast was very varied and all in all the stay was good. They did try and charge me again for the wine on check out but it was resolved with no problem.

Before flying out from Gatwick Airport, we always stay at the Arora for one night as the price includes two weeks parking. The Hotel is nice and clean and the rooms have all the facilities you need. You can get a shuttle bus or a taxi to the airport at a reasonable price. And when you land back at the Airport after your holiday, you just phone them and your car will be dropped off at the Airport in about 20 mins.

Got a cracking deal staying 2 nights with breakfast for 127.00. Plenty of parking under the hotel. Room was tidy and spacious with both a bath and shower. The fridge was a nice added bonus, as was the iron and ironing board. Breakfast was buffet style which was very good but Luke warm and packed, hard to find a table in the restaurant. Would not of paid 15.00 each. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was within walking distance of the town centre which has a large selection of places to eat, we would highly recommend prezzo's. Would return

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Arora for one night, as we were attending a family party in the area. The hotel itself is perfectly adequate - by no means five-star higher standard than, I'd say, Holiday Inn Express, Travelodge or Premier Inn. We booked a room at short notice, plus breakfast, for a good price through the Arora chain's website. The room was fine, with a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. There was underground overnight parking for £10. The buffet breakfast for £15 each was fine with cereals, fruit, cold meats and cooked items available. One small annoyance was a staff member trying to take away my plate before I'd even placed my knife and fork on it, which I consider rather rude but others may not be bothered by.

The problem we had was the ludicrously high drinks prices. As we were early for the surprise party we were attending nearby, we decided to have a quick drink in the hotel's "pub" - for one pint of a non-premium beer (Worthingtons) and a large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon (hardly a Gavi or Pouilly Fume in quality terms!!) we were charged £15.70. When we - understandably - challenged this, the very apologetic barman confirmed that the wine was indeed £11.70 a glass and intimated that were not the first customers to complain about the price of drinks; he approached us a few minutes afterwards having spoken to his superior and mentioned that our, and others', complaint would be raised at the next "management meeting". To the barman's great credit he appeared genuinely embarrassed by this matter, which he followed up and in so doing acted very professionally. Although we did not get his name, this incident occurred at just before 7pm on Saturday 4th May so I hope he can be identified and thanked for representing Arora so well. As a guide, we live in an affluent part of North London where bars charge accordingly and we would never expect to pay any more than £8-9 for the same two drinks.

We returned later, just before midnight, and decided to have a nightcap and snack. In the main foyer bar we were charged £34.05 for two drinks (pint of non-premium beer and small glass of house white wine) and two hastily prepared and unappetising baguettes. Even allowing for the late-ish hour (around 11.45 pm) this is hardly value for money.

So all in all, we were charged £49.75 for four drinks and two distinctly ropy baguettes. The room only cost £42!

When we raised the above whilst checking out the following morning, the reception staff appeared suitably chastened and did not charge us for our overnight parking, by way of recompense.

I can only wonder if Arora charge at this level to offset the relatively cheap rooms, or perhaps that they set these prices for guests on expenses? I'd be very interested to hear an explanation.

In the meantime, and to other visitors, I'd say that the hotel is fine in itself - just be VERY careful about what you order to eat and drink!!

I use this hotel every time we have a Course at the K2 Arena, which is twice a year. The rooms are clean, spacious and have all the facilities you require; Tea/coffee; trouser press; safe; TV; Wi Fi etc.

The bathroom is well fitted out and way above average.

The hotel itself is conveniently located for travel backing on to the railway. There is a sauna and steam room in the lower Ground floor.

Breakfast is not included in the price but worth having. Well cooked and tasty. Continental available if that's your fancy.

The bar is a bit of a let down re service. Can wait far too long to get served.

This was the second visit I made to the Arora for a stopover before flying from Gatwick. It was once again everything I hoped for. It's not remote, almost in the town centre, with plenty to do on its doorstep, although after our long journey there wasn't much time to explore.

The reception area was large, clean and spotless. The staff were welcoming and efficient and very helpful. The room was spotlessly clean with tea and coffee-making facilities and plenty of toiletries in the beautiful bathroom. I suppose the only thing I could find fault with was they forgot to bring the extra pillow I requested to the room. Although the room was overlooking the railway at the rear of the hotel, and there is a regular train service, the sound proofing is excellent and my sleep was not disturbed.

Although the Arora has a restaurant, I did not use this as I needed a very early bedtime and needed to be up by 3 am so breakfast had not started, so I cannot comment on this.

All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone flying off to better weather.

Although the hotel offers a park and fly service, I did not find out about this until I had already booked my car parking package. It will probably be a consideration in future,

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not overlooking the railway lines if you feel this will disturb you.
