“Good Expierience .... but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Went in here on xmas morning for a drink and was served promptly and politely, it was about 2.20, so some twenty minutes later returned to the bar for another and was told the bar had closed at 2.30, so I asked why did they have a sign in the window stating that the bar was open until 3pm, I argued this point and was eventually served after a conflab with the mangement and staff, this left a sour taste in my mouth as before that I was quite enjoying my visit there with a good warm and friendly athmosphere, so lesson to the outlet if you make statement regarding your tradin hours, stick to what you said or at least inform the clinetle of you intention to close early

My starter was forgotten and ended up as a dash to the local supermarket to buy a tin of soup ,arrived 10 minutes after everyone had eaten theirs. Beef bourguignon was cubed stewing beef with a dash of rich gravy,Anyone who give this place a high recommendation for food must live on Macdonalds..Only giving stars for quality of service by the staff.

Stayed at the Goddard arms a few times now while on business. It's very convenient for old town and walking distance to Nationwide and Intel offices. I pay about £60 for a double room and breakfast is about another £5. The rooms are a bit grubby with the peeling wallpaper but they don't smell. The beds are on the firm side.

The food is on the cheap and chearful side but plently of selection. Although the rooms are above the bar I've not been disturbed by any noise.

Overall - not bad for the money.

My second stay at the goddard arms and will stay there again whenever I'm in swindon . I found the room very clean and all the staff helpful. I had lunch from the bar menu which was very nice. My only problem was the car park at the rear of the hotel is small and seems to be full by mid afternoon at weekends.

When I checked in the manager showed me to my room...saying they are a pub with rooms.

This place is better than some hotels i've stopped in.

Well appointed,clean and well furnished.

The bar staff were pleasant and the pin of Guinness wasn't extortionate.

So if you're Swindon way.....try it!

Just sat down to breakfast.....full cooked or cereal and fruit....from 7am...perfect for the early riser.

When I first came to Swindon I was told the Goddard was the only place in town you could find a 60-year-old woman drinking from a fish bowl.
Purely as a visitor to the pub element though, the venue is first class and the cougar warnings proved false, despite a line in novelty drinks.
The relaunched Goddard is welcoming, spacious, reasonably-priced, well-heated and stocked with hearty real ales, crisp lagers, tea and coffee and food.
Larger parties visit at night but in the day you could run a small business from one of the quieter areas. In fact, I'm pretty sure some people do.
The new menu, which I believe has been put together by the parent pubco, adds a number of items such as 'monster' pies and chicken wraps.
The pub was packed when I last visited on a Saturday afternoon with a good atmosphere and the staff handling a deluge of food orders with aplomb.
The Goddard does a good line in tea and coffee, delivered to our table in shiny white china, and is one of the best pubs around if you are not drinking.
It's somewhere you can sit with friends, watch the news ticker roll and chat for hours
Well worth a visit, especially if you want a pub lunch with plenty of choice.

The overall experience of this pub/hotel was good. The bar and surounding bars were very lively. Great place for a nights out with friends and Hen /Stag nights.

Staff were very friendly. The room was quite surprising as it was quite modern, didn't expect that.

The location was very good, came out of the pub there was a cashpoint on the corner and plenty of lively bars and restaurantes.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front are quite noisy, when all the pubs shut (3am approx) although they do give you ea...
