“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We had a special offer through travel zoo which was excellent value. we stayed Saturday and Sunday and upgraded to a deluxe room. as another reviewer we also only had one bathrobe in our room and had to ask for another one which was brought instantly by housekeeping. The room itself was very nice, spacious comfortable and very quiet. we both used the health facilities and also felt the jacuzzi was very cold as the water was fed by the swimming pool. The purpose of our visit was a Xmas shopping trip to the designer mall and to have some relaxation time. This proved very difficult on Sunday afternoon when the hotel was taken over by a wedding. although the staff did their best to control the unruly children and the number of men who felt they would rather watch the football then attend the wedding, it was very difficult and it was impossible to relax on the sofas reading the paper. The staff were great and apologised giving complementary coffee to myself and husband. The breakfast and evening meal we had was excellent . we would not hesitate to stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback following your stay. I am sorry to hear that you were not supplied with the correct amount of bathrobes in your room upon arrival, I will bring this to the attention of the Head Housekeeper. As you say, the bubble pool is an integrated part of the swimming pool, which is kept at a temperature of between 30°-32°. Nevertheless, I will check with the LivingWell Manager that the pool is functioning correctly. Thank you also for your complimentary comments regarding your breakfast and dining experiences, I will ensure your praise is forwarded on to the Chef and his team. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hilton Swindon again.

My other half and I stayed at the Hilton Swindon en route to south Wales, so we could break up the journey. The hotel is located right off the M4, so excellent for those using the motorway.

We arrived late on a Saturday night and the receptionist was excellent. Very welcoming, friendly and smiling. It also helped she told us we'd been upgraded to the deluxe double room!

I think the deluxe is the same as a regular double but you get a robe and slippers and two little bottles of water free. One minor gripe was that they'd only supplied one set though, when there were two of us booked in the room. We didn't bring this up with management though, as other half not fussed about having a robe.

The room was nice and clean and surprisingly spacious. Bed and pillows were both comfy and I was pleased that the kettle was a good size, meaning you could make more than one cuppa at a time!

Bathroom was clean and the over-bath shower was surprisingly powerful. The complimentary toiletries were pretty good, and reception were able to give me a little toothbrush and paste free of charge as I'd forgotten mine.

We ordered room service as soon as we got up to the room. The full room service menu is served until 10pm, with a reduced choice of sandwiches, soup of the day etc after. We ordered at 10.10pm and kitchen staff were able to make us hot food, which was good customer service.

We used the health club facilities at 8am on Sunday, which is the time they open. Unfortunately the sauna hadn't heated up properly, but it probably would have been better had we waited a little longer.

Whirlpool is built as part of swimming pool, so it was a little cold as well because the cooler pool water gets in it. Again, a minor gripe.

The health club facilities were better than most I've seen that are inclusive of the price of hotel stay, and the changing rooms were clean.

Breakfast was very good, with a nice hot buffet selection (that was actually hot, and not just warm) as well as healthier choices like fruit, yogurt and cereals. I'd recommend you take away a muffin with you as well!

You'll be asked when you sit down to breakfast if you want tea or coffee. I recommend that you specifically ask for a latte (or whatever your caffeinated tipple of choice is). There's a small Costa Coffee concession in the lobby area, so if you ask for a latte with your breakfast you'll get the largest size costa takeaway cup, but free of charge!

The only bad point of the stay was that someone had charged their dinner to our room. But as soon as reception saw that the receipt signature didn't match it was removed from our bill. So make sure you check your bill before you elave, just in case.

Overall I thought the hotel was of a very good standard, good value for money and would recommend it to others.

Had a two night stay on the 15th and 16th of November and the value was outstanding. The Hotel itself is comfortable and the staff pleasant and helpful, even going to the trouble to find us a heater when the C/H broke down. The breakfasts were perfectly adequate, with enough choice to satisfy the health or fry up freaks. Our only complaint was the dinner we had, we chose the Plaice and I'm afraid the caper sauce didn't do this delicate flavoured fish any favours as it dominated the taste buds. However as the afore mentioned dinner was included in the deal, it would be churlish of me to "make a meal" of it. As for the parking it was free( I believe there is usually a charge), but a pity about the water, at Tower bridge and Kensington Olympia, that is also free.

We've stayed here several times when visiting a relative in the area. The rooms are always clean, and of a high standard, with comfortable beds and good television facilities. The bottled water is now £3.95, which does not represent good value and the £3 parking charge is also rather unwelcoming. There was a wedding party in progress, but this casued no difficulties or noise. The hotel is always calm and quiet, with no sleep interruptions. We paid £10 for the buffet breakfast, which offers an excellent choice of food.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be uniformly good

We stayed here on the 9th to 11th of November on a travel zoo deal, having stayed at a different hotel on one of these deals and it was excellent we tried the Hilton,ok we didnt have to pay the parking as it was included as was the wine on the first night ,we also got a requested upgrade which we got ,the room was fine ,and so was the breakfast on both mornings ,but alas the evening meal ,well it was shocking ,the choice was VERY limited and the actual meal i could have done better myself ,the fish and chips were a let down probably both frozen ,the presentation was not appealing ,not even on my suet meat pie i only ate the meat ,we ordered triffle ,well when it came we both laughed ,there was no taste ,it was obviously tin custard well my grandkids could have knocked up something better,we felt it was because we were on the travel zoo deal ,the principal hay hotel we stayed at on a travel zoo deal was spot on,the food was so much better,so i think the hilton has let it self down.yes we did point this out on check out as did l fill in a form.
The leisure facilities were ok again a let down for a Hilton ,didnt like the plaster just left by the pool.
ON our second night we went else where to eat ,and we got the impression from the staff were we ate quite a few guests after the first night ate else where.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay. I am truly sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the quality of the evening meal, I will bring your comments to the attention of our Head Chef. Similarly, I will speak with the LivingWell Manager about the plaster you found by the pool area. We are most grateful to you for bringing these matters to our attention.

Like most Hilton's this gives a good standard of accomodation with only one thing letting it down. This was the fact that you have to pay for car parking - £3 per night for Hilton guests. Given the hotel's location I think it's ridiculous that you have to pay to park and it should be free for Hotel guests.

The restaurant served good food, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great with lots of choice - there is something for everyone.

We will be back

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us. I am pleased to hear that you found our breakfast selection so varied and plentiful. Regarding the car park charge, we provide 2-hours free parking for our guests and visitors. The car park charge allows us to provide a more secure parking service for our customers and maintain the upkeep of barriers and security cameras. It also deters non Hilton customers from using up valuable spaces for our visitors. We very much look forward to welcoming you back at some point.

Stayed here for the weekend.
Well appointed room recently refurbished. Comfortable bed.
Breakfast is buffet style but food selection excellent. Well cooked and probably the best experienced for many years.
Public areas comfortable and maintained to a good standard.
Leisure complex is compact with a decent pool, good temperature, steam room/sauna and gym.
Front desk polite and efficient.

Care needs to exercised when approaching from the M4 roundabout as you need to ensure that you do not miss the slip road to the hotel - stay in the near side lane.
It is a pity that the hotel charges £3 a night for car parking for guests.
