You would never quite realise from their website and leaflets quite how much of a gem this place is. There is absolutely loads of stuff inside - you can see and do all kinds of things from walking underneath the fantastic Chippenham Flyer to changing train signals to going on a train driving simulator. It's obviously brilliant for the train enthusiasts, young and old, with a real wealth of information about the Swindon railway works and the people who used to work there, but even for those who aren't habitually train mad it is really interesting. It's a lot bigger than you'd think from the outside. The website recommends a two hour visiting time but I think you could very easily spend a lot longer in here, with so many interactive displays but also lots of places where you can just sit and take it in. And of course if you find that some of your party are slightly more interested in shopping than trains, there's always the Outlet Centre next door for them to sneak off to...But a real find, and particularly good for those cold and rainy afternoons when you still want to get out the house. Plus the prices are very reasonable, particularly given how much stuff there is to go round.
