Having eaten here a few times at lunch and being put off because of poor service (although the food was fantastic) I haven’t been for a while. I was searching for somewhere special to take my husband for his birthday and although I was reluctant to go back in the evening in-case the service wasn’t up to scratch, they defiantly had the best menu on offer of all the places I researched. Darley’s it was!
I’m really glad we went back. The food was fantastic and no complaints about the service either, which could still have been improved if we didn't have five different people serve us! My husband had ‘goats curd, savoury choux pastry, roasted nuts, salted honey comb’ for starters, this was amazing – the dish was beautifully presented and offered a great variety of flavours and textures. I had ‘chicken and coriander sandwich’, which was served with Moroccan flavoured cous cous, this was nice but wasn’t that exciting. For main course I had the fish of the day and my husband had ‘loin of rose veal, crispy mushroom canalline, port jus’, both were lovely. We ordered a side of mash, with our mains. I can’t remember what type of mash it was, but it was very nice. Then we both had the assiette of chef’s desserts in which the soufflé was absolutely awesome (picture uploaded).
We had a larger before the meal, a nice bottle of white and then finished with port and dessert wine. The bill came to a reasonable £110, I was expecting to spend around the £150 mark. There was only one thing that let the place down – dirty toilets! This really shouldn’t happen in a place serving food of such a high standard and price and I hope it was just a one off. Had a great night and will definitely be going back when we can find an excuse to do so.
