My husband and I ate at Zest on Wednesday evening and everything was perfect. Matthew, our waiter, was concerned that we were alright upstairs, as the majority of diners were downstairs. As this was a Wedding Anniversary meal, it was nice to be on our own but we appreciated his thought. Even though it meant that he had to walk up and downstairs several times especially for us, he appeared not to mind and couldn't have been more efficient and attentive. (sorry we left without remembering to give him you a well-deserved tip!)
The food was delicious throughout. If you want a restaurant that piles food on the plate, then this isn't the place for you. The portions are appropriate for a good restaurant such as this and it was nice not to leave, feeling 'too full'.
We'd forgotten that no vegetables are served with the main courses unless you order separately and were, at first, disappointed that we hadn't realised this, but in the end, we were glad as it left us room for deserts. The latter were the best that we had ever tasted and that's no mean achievment as we're not usually keen on deserts. My husband had Strawberry 'Zest Mess' and I had Raspberry Jam Frangipane, both made to perfection.
We can only afford to eat here, on special occasions, although the Early Evening Meal is very reasonable. However, this makes the occasions even more special, knowing that you're going to be eating in a nice setting, with good staff and beautifully cooked food.
