“Top hotel, Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

I took my other half to Derby to go to a gig and we decided to stay for a few nights. We went with the spring special rate at this hotel and we weren't disappointed. Large room with sofa, free wired internet, good sized bathroom with a good shower and breakfast included. The staff were very helpful, bed was super comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if in Derby...
Only downside would be they could replace some of the breakfast items a lit quicker....

G'Day Aussie,

Thanks for the amazing review!!

Just on one note, we've considered investigating in roller skates for the breakfast team so they can dish out our scrummy hot breakfast quicker, in the end we decided just to tell them to speed things up, thanks for your feedback!!

We look forward to seeing you again real soon.

We arrived in Derby following our trusted Sat Nav and thought OH when we drove up to a huge bus station with what looked like the hotel on top of it.
But what a surprise we had. The hotel was behind the station in a relatively new build there was car parking across the street in the shopping centres car park and the hotel gets a discount rate of £6 instead of the normal £15 so bargin there and the car park is maintained by really friendly car park security.
On arrival to the hotel we were checked in quickly and efficiently the assistant manager was very pleasant and we were told check out was 12 ( fab news) and that all guests get a free breakfast bonus
On walking into the room was very impressed with what greeted us for what we had paid for it. Room size was good lovely large bathroom with a big shower cubicle and free toiletries. Big double bed .26" TV sofa ( which was a sofa bed). Table and furnishings. Bed was lovely and comfy as were the pillows ( only downside was that the window had a corigated pull down blind which didnt fit the window so you got light in early it was too short and narrow).

We only payed £40 for the room so the breakfast for free although not amazing was good enough quality to make you go yeah thanks croissants pain au chocolate and muffins selection of teas and coffees aswell as juices cereal youghurt milk variety of bread and a toaster and hot food consisting of scrambled egg mini has browns baked beans sausages and bacon ( which i never saw as it ran out very quickly everytime it was served) i wanted some more sausages and they made me some instantly and i assume if i wanted bacon that badly i would of got it also.

Location not great though at an old run down end of town with a feel of things being run down. The Bus station was a worry as we thought it would be noisey but we never heard a peep.

Overall great hotel for the price would definately stay again

Room Tip: go for odd numbers

Hey Kat,
Well we've proved again that looks can be decieving and indeed being above a bus station and providing a great nights sleep just goes to prove it's whats on the inside that counts!!

So glad you liked your stay at Hampton that we cannot wait to see you back again soon :-)

Best regards and thanks again,

Located above the bus terminal.
In a urban renewal zone.
Close to a downtown....where there is no one at nite.
New, but has that cheap construction feel to it.
Perfectly clean. Very agreeable staff.
All new furniture and fixtures....still has that new carpet smell.
Parking not attached....but in a huge garage across the street.
(Would be a great set for a murder mystery....dingy dark, old garage.)
Hotel experience like rooming in a factory office.
Absolutely no personality, and no charm.

Room Tip: Still has new carpet smell. NO personality.

Hey Winston,
Thanks for your review.

In middle England we'd call "the personality of a plastic chair" all fur coat and no knickers, but to be honest that isn't our style at Hampton.
We've spent the tune of £10 million on this development and whilst we love our ubber chic, cool and contemporary look we understand it's not to everyones taste.

Funny you should mention murder scene as we were thinking of holding a murder mystery evening so it's great we've got the backdrop for that.
Yes, we admit the area is still work in progress but give it a few months and Derby Riverlights will be buzzing as all of the new outlets and casino come to life!!

All of our previous guests love our central city location and we're confident it will pay off, we hope you'll give us another try soon, and we'll do all we can to remove any hint of plastic as well!

Many thanks again,
Team Hampton Derby

I stay at Hamptons all the time in the States, and travel often in Britain, so I was happy to be able to spend my Hilton points on a visit to this hotel. The rooms are smaller (to be expected, and not a problem), but in every other respect the hotel was as good as or better than American Hamptons. I LOVED having a bar and a decent breakfast: It's shameful that Hilton serves crap on plastic plates in the U.S., while managing a much more respectable breakfast in the UK. The Derby staff were professional, friendly, and extremely helpful.
The only problem, as other reviewers have noted, is that parking is in the multistorey garage operated by a neigbouring shopping centre. Thye distance from the hotel was a bit worrying, buit we arrived early enough not to be unduly troubled. Where we ran into a problem was in leaving: The signage to re-enter the car park on food is not merely inadequate, but completely absent. Lacking any instruction to the contrary, we tried to return via the door we had exited the night before. What followed was a tale of woe, frustration, and annoyance involving locked doors and no pedestrian access between garage floorsx. Only the third person we asked on the street knew where we could enter, and it still involved sclepping our luggage up a flight of steps to where there were lifts. This is not the Hampton's fault, but, as I told the nice staff member on the phone later, the hotel really must offer directions to departing guests. I find it impossible to believe that we were the only guests inconvenienced in this way. With that simple courtesy, they would greatly influence my willingness to recommend this hotel.

Greetings in Georgia,
So glad to hear you had a nice stay and even more pleased to see you LOVED our bar and our fab Hampton hot breakfast!!
Being in the city parking is somewhat limited, and I am sorry if you experienced any problems. We continue to work to improve the parking offering and we do feel we're nearly there, we hope to have more signage soon to help our guests out.
Hope to see you back on your next trip to the UK, remember we're expanding so you may see a Hampton popping up in another UK city you're visiting very soon!

Best regards,
Team Hampton Derby
