“Excellent enjoyable stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2011

We went on the 2 night deal, which was excellent value, room lovely, staff excellent especially Carolyn in the bar and the resturant manager who could not have been more helpful, food excellent, could do with an area outside to sit if the weather is fine. Cheltenham was close by and a lovely town to visit. Would definately return.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and your kind words regarding your stay - It is always a pleasure to read such reviews, and see the team going the extra mile to look after our guests. I was pleased to read your comments about the restaurant amd food, and glad they were enjoyed, as well as your comments on the rooms. There is plenty to do in the area, with many highlights locally, so certainly more of GLoucestershire for you to discover next time!

Thanks again,

Had an excellent deal through travelzoo. The reception staff were all very helpful and greeted us with a smile. The room was very comfortable and spotless. The afternoon tea was fine but why only half a scone? Breakfast was good but I would have loved to have seen rolls rather than just bread served. We enjoyed a lovely dinner especially the Halmark Hotel chocolate pudding. Service could have been faster and a little more efficient. The refurbishment seems almost complete but having to use side way in caused us no problem - perhaps because I did not totter in in heels!!! The hotel was having problems with the internett but it did finally work on the morning we left.

Dear travellerkent,

Thank you for your review and your kind words. As you saw, the refurb is basically complete now, and I was glad you enjoyed your time inthe hotel with the new rooms and facilities - it is really looking quite special now. In terms of the afternoon tea, we did begin with the straightforward sandwiches, scone and fruit cake, but it has evolved to suit demand and request, so now features a selection of homemade cakes, oat fancies, and sandwiches, as well as the scone with jam and cream, which I trust was enjoyed - we found variety was the est thing to offer. Apologies on the internet issue - as mentioned in a response below, there was a day when we had some trouble last week, but was resolved by the end of that day - hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. Glad to read you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your efedback, and hope to welcome you back soon.

Best wishes,

We stayed here over the weekend of 24-26 June and had a good time. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which was very good and spacious.

The hotel's main strength is its' staff who are first class, polite and efficient. We did have a minor problem early Saturday evening in the bar where we did wait about 40 minutes after ordering Tappas from the bar menu, as these were cold tappas we didn't quite understand why it took so long and we did have to remind the bar staff twice.

Food was very good at both dinner and at breakfast and once again the staff were excellent. Whatever was asked for by us was effectively and curteously dealt with.

We did use the pool, spa etc and it is very relaxing, the pool did look like it needs a clean on the tiles and grout but I am sure the water is fine as we saw it tested at least twice.

The hotel location is very good especially for Gloucester Town Centre and Gloucester Quays which is well worth a visit.

Over a good stay but wait for the building work to be completed which is noisy during the day.

Hello there,

Thanks for your review and your kind words about the team - they are a fantastic asset here, and make me very proud! Great to read you enjoyed the hotel and your stay, especially the food side, as our new menu is going down very well. I will share your points abotu pool-side with the leisure team, but as you spotted, they are diligent in their hygeine checks, and cleanliness is part of this, but we will see if the grouting could be improved. Glad to say the building work is in the final stage now, so entrance way complete for start of next week, and then just the final bedrooms run and decorating the function room. Glad you enjoyed your stay, and hope we can welcome you back soon.

All the best,

James Plant

The hotel is under refurbishment and some work still going on, but this stopped on Friday afternoon and caused us no problem. The staff are well trained, friendly, helpful, spot on. The room was large and tastefully decorated, The swimming area is in need of an update but OK. We had the two night stay deal, excellent value, ate in the restaurant, couldnt fault the food. They were a little short on the wine we wanted but not a problem. Located next to golf couse, which we had a walk round, country park and ski centre. Taxi into town was £8, the waterfront was a dissapointment, the catherdral area somewhat better.

Just returned from a weekend at the Hallmark celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary, great (refurbished) room, lovely breakfast, staff very helpful,Leisure club enjoyable & overall a great base for the cotswolds but i wouldnt recommend Gloucester Town Centre,Its a dump! Wifi was rubbish, only worked if you stood in the bathrrom & held the phone above your head ! Only criticism was the building work which I had been assured before booking would be completed but wasnt. Reception is only accessible through a fire escape door down a steep gravel flower bed & then negotiating some tewmporary steps made from scaffolding, bit awkward to bring cases in & out & my wife nearly went flying a couple of times in her heels.Alos every time we went to reception, we found it woefully understaffed which meant waiting for 10 mins every time

Dear Guest,

Congratulations on your anniversairy, and thank you for choosing to spend that time with us. I was happy to read of the areas you clearly enjoyed, and thank you for your kind words in those areas. I was sorry to read about the issues you had - I do recall we had a Wi-Fi problem one day last week, and assume that you were affected at this time, so my apologies on this. I would also like to apologise for any disruption caused by the building work, which I am glad to say is very close to completion now - we were expecting the atrium and entrance to be done for last week, but it will now be the end of this week, and that brings the major works to an end. I will pass on your comments to the team, and hope we can improve the areas mentioned. Should you return to us, we have some great information on the local highlgihts at the desk; Gloucester Quays, Rococo gardens and Painswick abbey to name a few. Once again, thank you for your comments, and glad you enjoyed your stay.

Regards,

James Plant

If they had been upfront about the builders, I would have felt better the rooms are very VERY stuffy, we stayed in a family room 128 don't bother didnt sleep. Having sate that the staff are nice and did their best most of the time tho it did take them an hour to make my daughter a ham sandwich. Food was ok value on the half price deal. this will be a nice hotel when it is finished. Hall Mark hotels shoul declare the builders were there at the time of booking

Deaqr Lynnebo53,

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to feedback and write the review - my apologies that you experienced the disruption of the builders to such an extent - I have revisited timings with the contractors to ensure there is no noise before 9am, and I am sorry if this was not the case for you. We are now entering the final stage of the work, with all of the front entrance complete this week, which has been one of the busier parts ofthe build, so I am happy to say this is now essentially complete. We have always tried to be open with websites when we have known the timings for projects, hence our website stating ' The refurbishment... is gathering pace', and where we are up to in the work. As of next week, we will have all of our double rooms done, with family, twin and suites also available, and the leisure centre, conference room, restaurant and bar all completed, with just the final corridor being decorated at the back of the hotel, and the function room and garden now also being finished off, so exceptionallly close to a completed refurb. I was sorry to read your film disrputed - this was a local atmospheric issue, affecting the area that night, but resolved shortly afterwards. My apologies again on any disruption, but hope we are able to welcome you back to the finished productsoon.

Best wishes,

James Plant

Have just returned from 3 nights at the Hallmark Hotel and cannot fault it. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the recent refurb. ensured a great break in a nice setting near to the city centre. Evening meal is superb in a pleasant romantic restaurant. We will return!
