“Good Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Was a bit wary having seen the negative reports here, but can't see what the fuss is about. Myself & 11 others were in Gloucester for 3 nights as a base for a walking weekend & we all came away having enjoyed our stay. There were a couple of glitches but they were soon sorted out. I can see that in summer it would get pretty hot in the rooms, but as it was a cool weekend, then no problem for us. We all ate here one night which was pleasant & had a good breakfast every morning. My only gripe personally was the beer in the bar - the John Smiths wasn't great, but there are plenty of nice pubs nearby (the New Inn & Cafe Rene) so we just drank elsewhere.
I would happily stay here again.

We stayed here on the 7th September 2013, mainly because gloucester was so busy and everywhere was booked up!
We can see why this place wasn't!
On arrival we checked in, which took ages, and was then asked for photo id as they can't let you stay unless they get photo id, bizarre seeing we were stood right in front of him!!!!
We walked up to our room, past the aircon unit at the bottom of the stairs which was pumping the hot air all up the stairway, which was unbearable to walk in while carrying a heavy case.
We got to our room and literally dumped our stuff and went out, as we were running late for a Birthday Party.
Throughout the night we were awoken by the toilet which kept constantly running water into the bowl!
In the morning we went to have a shower, and as the pics will show we have never seen such a vile shower curtain in our life!
Have these people not heard of cleaning?
The carpets were filthy, mirrors filthy the room was just dirty!
It's a family room yet its very small so hardly enough room for a double and single bed.
After a wash rather than a shower I went to make a cup of tea, no tea bags, so thought I'd pop the kettle on and go ask for some.....the kettle didnt work!
Asked for a refund, no such luck! All we were offered was another nights stay for free, and a cold cup of tea!
All in all, while we can't fault the staff, we just can't understand how a hotel could let its rooms get so dirty.
It really is vile!!!!

We stayed here over the August Bank Holiday. On arrival to the hotel we were told that the hotel had not booked our rooms . We booked via Booking.com but was told by the girl on reception that the person that deals with internet bookings had made a mistake and had not booked either of our rooms. We were not impressed as had had a 3.5 hour journey to get there. The Receptionist offered to find us alternative accommodation at another hotel. We were happy for her to do this shilst we had a drink in the bar, albeit not complimentary which would have been a nice gesture. After about an hour the Receptionist returned to us offering us 2 twin rooms at the back of the hotel. She had apparantly re-arranged someone else's bookings??? We were also offered complimentary breakfast. We decided to stay here. Our room was very small and a bit shabby but it was a comfortable nights sleep. We would not stay here again.

Three of us stayed in a family room last minute due to a messed up booking at another hotel. Contrary to other reviews we found the staff really friendly and helpful, they were particularly attentive and kind to the elderly couple in front of us in the queue at reception but also helpful to us and promptly brought glasses to our room when we requested them.
Room was modern, spacious and clean with a lovely rain head shower.
So the negatives? The room was boiling! I mean really very hot. It was difficult to sleep and the small fan on the desk did very little to help. It is summer, I know, but it was not a particularly hot night - can't imagine what it would have been like a few weeks earlier! Second problem was the noise of the seagulls... in fairness I am unsure what the hotel could do about this but it was a real problem - they started screeching at 06.00 a.m and didn't stop.
So all in all room fine, bath room nice but a terrible night's sleep!

We were on the front first floor rather down at heel room. The door code was incorrect for late night entry and our welcome was not great - at least the desk was manned during the afternoon. We had some unpleasant stains on the walls and carpet. The dawn chorus provided free by the council of refuse collections and the wonderful cries of the seagulls. It was reasonably priced. But not somewhere I would ever go back to.

We stayed here at the beginning of August. We have stayed at this hotel many times before and as usual we find the place to better than most. The staff here are all hardworking attentive and very friendly people. The service we have is excellent and our rooms ate always freshly made up and clean. Would recommend this hotel to anyone that visits Gloucester

Terrible service, no towels in room, noisy (both night long music in reception and bloody seagulls), uncomfortable...worst expirience of my life...stay away. Gloucester not the greatest place in the world, but surely there is better than this..
