“Very good hotel if you get a deal on the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2010

We stayed at The Wharf House for our anniversary weekend as neither of us know Gloucester very well and it seemed like a good destination. We also manged to find a good deal on the internet and so the room was half price.
Although the small hotel is very nice (clean, modern and comfortable) I would not have wanted to pay the normal full rate as it is some way out of the city centre and close to busy main roads. It also seemed that the prices in their restauarant were very pricey. We walked into the city in the evening along the river, which was nice but took about 45 minutes.
Our room was really lovely, with lots of nice touches and a view over the (murky brown) River Severn. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet (the road traffic isn't really a problem).
The service was generally good, although breakfast left quite a lot to be desired. The waitress seemed a bit distant and kept forgetting things we asked for. I also had to ask for fruit juice and a refill of coffee - all things you would normally expect automatically. We weren't offered cereal and only got one piece of toast each. If the breakfast had been better it would have left a more favourable impression of the whole hotel.
Apart from that, The Wharf House is not too bad at all.

This was an excellent place to choose, due to being right by the River Severn & also on the start of The Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal, which is currently being restored.
I was very happy to hear that all the profits from the rooms and the lovely restaurant on the ground floor, goes back into the restoration of the canal.
The room was clean, lovely details in the room & bathroom, including 2 person spa baths!
For breakfast I had a good selection to chose from, which was freshly prepaired.
The evening meal in the restaurant was also excellent.
Would definately recommend & would stay again.

Ignore the sat-nav as you will end up in a golf club 2 miles away !!
Set next to the river a stone throw away from the flyover (Do not be put off)
A fantastic standalone building yes it is close to the main road but the noise does not travel...A peaceful location with every luxury taken care of spa bath /Huge TV/mini fridge full of drinks and bath robes as well !!
Very quiet at night watching the sun go down whilst enjoying a drink on the patio...a slice of heaven.
Breakfast full english ,sausages from the local butcher .
Host both welcoming and informative receptionist a gem !!! Thank you top marks !!
