“Food OK....unbelieveable staff ASKED FOR TIP!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Used to come to this place quite a bit and was more than happy with food & service (waiters were more than helpful & very talkative back then). 3 of us popped in over the New Year period and noticed it had changed.

Food was ok, although the Saag Paneer side (Spinach & "supposed" to be indian cheese) was the worst I've ever had. Literally just some dried up old spinach with a tiny bit of melted cheddar on top, literally nothing more than that. NOT worth the 4.50 charged.

Anyway, mustn't really grumble as all ok up until then, asked to pay the (not cheap) bill and one of the older waiters came over with the card machine. As he passed machine, he didn't ask how the food or evening was but on 3 (YES three!) occasions told me to press the X button to pay tip. When he rudely watched me press the Y button (no tip) he asked me "You're not leaving us a tip?". Now, I normally give the waiter at least a fiver (or sometimes a tenner) cash on the way out, and was prepared to do the same here up until he asked. I was genuinely shocked by his attitude though, so were my friends.

Based on this, I can definitely say, non of us will be returning to Baburchi again. It's a shame really but with a lot more friendlier (and tastier) competition just up the road, we'd be daft to return!

“attentive experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Lovely attentive staff and good quality food. Perhaps slightly short on chicken in the curries, after all it's not that expensive.Nan tasted fine and chutney tray interesting. Would visit again; a worthwhile experience!!

“Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Had a meal with my friends.

Service was ok, food was mediocre and was expensive for what you get. Not bad overall. The Decor was nice.

“Poor, expensive food with poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

Hadn't been to Baburchi for a few years and was shocked at how bad it's become. Apparently they've opened a new restaurant in Cheltenham and the staff have moved there to be replaced by new inexperienced ones.

Service was awful, staff surly. The portions were small and pretty expensive, rice was cold although main courses were ok.

We had two halves of draught Cobra, £5.90, whereas a pint was £3.60.
