Description: The Traveller’s Rest dates from the middle of the 17th Century and offers fantastic views over Crimple Valley, and for those twitchers amongst us don't forget all the Red Kites we have flying by and the white crow that roosts in the tree opposite. This quaint, rural pub is one of two pubs on the famous 'Ringway Walk' around Harrogate which runs along the private lane where the Traveller's Rest is situated. We are a stone's throw from the affluent spa town of Harrogate so you have the best of both worlds. The interior boasts old wooden beams, a stoned floor area and also a light airy conservatory which leads to the garden area. This is a perfect place for a celebration or get together for a function. The enviable position of the Traveller’s Rest is what makes it a very special destination, for a lovely meal or relaxing drink of traditional beer or glass of wine. We welcome local regulars, ladies who lunch and, given the walks around us, muddy boots and dogs! We even provide water bowls for our four legged friends.

“Slow. Insincere apology. Below average food.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2014 via mobile

We visited the Inn for lunch to celebrate our Grandfather's 94th birthday. The food took over an hour to arrive with other tables being served and finishing their meals before us. There was no apology or explanation offered for the delay and we had to ask several times regarding when our food would arrive. The apology when finally offered was insincere and they certainly do not abide by the rule that the 'customer is always right' with a number of remarks made suggesting that we were at fault for not realising and accepting that they were very busy. The food when it did arrive was lukewarm, dry and lacking flavour. It was certainly poor value for money with the long delay adding insult to injury. No offer of recompense was made and the insincere & bored tone of voice was very galling. Thankfully we had had the foresight to make our 1 year old a sandwich for his lunch otherwise the experience would have been even worse. He undoubtedly had the best meal of the day. Needless to say, we will never go there again.

Thank you for your feedback, it is important to us and allows us to improve and grow as a business.

Please rest assured that I have investigated your visit with all members of staff on duty at the time of your visit, and I would never reply without a full account of the situation.

I must, firstly, sincerely apologise for any dissatisfaction you and your party felt on your visit; we strive to deliver the best possible service to all of our customers at all times. It would seem, in your perception, we failed on this occasion.

However, your review is not factual to your actual experience.

We squeezed you in, as a last minute booking, and advised your party there would be a wait for food up to one hour, as we had many tables in-house that had booked weeks in advance; you had drinks and accepted this.

I have a record of your service receipt from our till system. After 30 minutes, you were extremely insulting to our servers, saying you had waited 'over 2 hours' for your meal; this is simply untrue, it was in fact 57 minutes. I do apologise for the delay in your food service, but with this being explained on your visit, it surely should not have been an issue.

We had many bookings on the day, and I can assure you that, in service, no table is given preference over another - your party was served in turn - no table was served before you, contrary to your comments.

Our service staff are polite, welcoming and professional. I understand that many apologies were given for the delay in your food. Your party seemed to accept these at the time, without complaint; it is a shame you feel you must then air your views here.

Also, I MUST add, our food is home made, our ingredients are locally sourced, and temperature probed before it leaves our kitchen. Nothing will have arrived at your table 'luke warm', as you stated. Our food is also delicious, and not 'lacking in flavour', please see the majority of other reviews for a more balanced outlook. Despite our sincere apologies for your wait, your comments appear callous, grossly misappropriated, and merely intended to harm our good trade.

In addition, your child had a shop-bought sandwich, our servers did notice you open the packet. I can assure you that our food is more nutritious; we know where our food is from.

How sad it has to come to this. Shame.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2014

Visited here due to trip advisor review & wasn't dissapointed.
Although off the beaten track its sign posted well.
We received a warm welcome and felt very comfortable.
The food was excellent & couldn't be faulted, nothing was too much trouble for the hosts.
Well worth a visit

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2014

I loved the food, a great mix of dishes! The tuna steak salad - cooked to perfection and the fish and chips were perfect, all washed down with some well recommended Italian wine, even though it should have been white! The dog enjoyed his special treat after a walk in the countryside and settled in front of the fire - I could have settled in for longer too. Will definitely be back to sample the Christmas menu and anticipate another warm welcome.

“Lovely, cosy place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2014

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere, a testament to the cosy nature. The bar staff were really friendly and they are dog friendly too (and treats dispensing!) but in a separate part of the pub so if you're not a fan, don't worry. I had the Traveller Best Burger and it was delicious. The house white was good and the hand pulled ale went down well with the men of the group. Overall, a really nice place to spend a good few hours and having eyed up the Christmas menu I am sure we will be back soon!

“What more could you ask for?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2014

First visit to this pub & was more than pleased to have made the decision to 'pop in'. I was directed there from the events centre and entered this 'olde world' pub to be greeted by a roaring log fire. The bar was well stocked with ample choice of ales and I settled down to peruse the menu. There were plenty of choices but went for the 'early bird' choice which offered 2 courses for £12. The lasagne was superb and the malteser cheesecake rounded the meal off superbly. After a couple more pints I left totally satisfied with a full stomach.
Overall a great pub offering a warm welcome, cold beer & good home cooked food. I will definately visit again when next in Harrogate!!
