“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

I spent one night in the hotel for business. A really great experience. You check in at the bar, we were explained how to use the fob, and also the payment of the room happened directly at the check-in. I suddenly questioned why big hotels not doing the same. This was efficient.
Staff was super friendly and took us up, explaining again the fob, rules with doors etc. Gave a feeling of being bit in a family business.
Room was huge, nicely equipped and comfortable. Bed was good. Window had curtains that really blocked the light in the morning, nice for a long sleep.
Bathroom was ok.
Continental breakfast was included, but we ordered (for 7 Pounds) a full Egnlish breakfast which was worth every single Pound - just high quality.
Internet was included and worked well.
Overall high recommendation to stay here.

Stayed here one night on a work trip (Nov 2013). Stayed in room 10 (I think) on 2nd floor. Room nice and cosy, well-decorated with plenty of space, and decent complimentary toiletries (Neutrogena) which makes a nice change. Bed was comfy but I could have done with more pillows as the two supplied were not very substantial. Room was nice and quiet.
Had dinner here with a big group of around 10 people. Ordered mixed starters to share which were really delicious and well-cooked. Main course I had was prawn linguine which was really good too, very flavoursome. Everyone else's meals were good too, so they said.
Service overall was really friendly and helpful. Didn't have the cooked breakfast but others said it was very good. Overall, a very good and reasonably-priced place to stay in Harrogate. Would recommend it whole-heartedly, and would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the busy road are double glazed so traffic noise shouldn't be a problem.

After spending the day at a spa in knaresbourough we carried the birthday celebrations on at the hotel. It really was a beautiful hotel. With tartan cushions, antler lights and an open fire,.....very cosy!! The room myself and cousin stayed in was lovely a great size and a brilliant shower, however the other room was quite small, but comfortable and also had a great shower. Maybe slightly pricey tho! We didn't gave time to get a drink before heading into town but it would have been nice, especially as they were doing mulled wine! Breakfast was nice enough, warm crossiants, pain au chocolat, fruit, yogurts, juice, tea and coffee. After a night out a full English would have been great! On the whole beautiful, comfortable hotel. I would def stay again!

Room Tip: I would book a family room if I was you....even if there's only two of you. We got it for the sa...

The Pine Marten is a small inn with a limited number of rooms on the edge of Harrogate and ajacent to a number of large coroporate offices and the police headquaters. This means the rooms get booked up quickly so make sure you book ahead. The Hotel is clean and tidy and the common areas confortable and well decorated.
The rooms are a little qwerky - I stayed in room 9 and this was a very odd shape, more like three "spaces" made into a room, the bedroom itself was quite small and the en suite bathroom an odd shape. Little details let this room down like the fact there was only a small mirror in the bathroom and that place high on the wall, ( i'm not 5,ft nothing but I couldn't see to shave - and it was on the opposite wall to the sink anyway ! )
Overall the room was value for money, with a comfortable bed - just not anything special.

The food in the Pine Marten was very good and the service for the food (and the hotel very friendly). Breakfast was also good, with a self service continental style being offered or an english breakfast for a additional cost.
Parking was free and lots of it.

After we had checked in, we tried to access the "free" internet. The system demanded a mobile phone number in order to get our password. We do not have a mobile phone while we are in Great Britain. The Manager, John Locke, was kind enough to come up and use his mobile phone to try to get a password for us. After 10 minutes or so, the system said we had used up our alloted number of attempts to log on and could not try again for 24 hours. So we ended up with no internet access, which was very important to us as we were having to use Google Maps to augment our road maps to find different sites and our next night's hotel. We ended up using the free WiFi at the first service area on the motorway the next day. Wasted a lot of time and energy on this issue.

Then we went to use the phone to place an 0800 call, and could not get the phone to allow us to call out. As soon as we entered the 9 for an outside call, we would simply get a beeping sound. The manager was again contacted and he attempted to find out what the issue was. He responded back that the phones simply did not work! Interesting to read in the Guest Information book that in the event of an emergency we were to use the phone to call for help.
In addition, the front desk could not transfer any incoming calls to our room phone.

Totally unsatisfactory situation, we had no way to communicate with the outside world, except to borrow the managers phone, which we did, to make an 0800 call.

There was mold on the wall of the bathroom and the mirror was set so high that my 5ft 1in wife could only see the top of her head in it.

The Manager, John Locke, did everything in his ability to help resolve the phone and internet issues, but the system is flawed and left him with few alternatives.

Good bed. It was very quiet after everyone finished getting into their rooms after the bar closed about midnight. Room was clean. The staff was very cordial and our meal was very good.

Because of the communications issues, we would NOT stay here again. We have been traveling in GB for almost a month now, and this is the first place I have said that about. We have stayed at tiny B+B's in the middle of nowhere that had better technical support.

We came here with my Aunt one Wednesday in October. She chose the restaurant as she lives in Harrogate and wanted to take us out when we visited. Consequently I do not know what the bill was. When we entered it was early (a bit after 5 p.m.) and the dining room was mostly empty, and my Aunt was concerned perhaps the business was not doing well. But by the time we left, almost five hours later after multiple rounds of coffee and wine, it was full. So we early birds picked a good spot. In fairness to the wait staff, we did keep ordering things and they did not pester us or hover at all despite our lengthy dinner. Food was very good, cannot remember what we ate exactly as we were still a bit jet lagged - all in all a pleasant time. I liked the environment - I was told by my Aunt that at one point there was a pool under

We had a family meal here. There were 11 of us after we had been to a funeral. Really nicely fitted out with plenty of space. Excellent choice of meals and great service. Innovative food at decent prices. Will definitely return
