“Impressive Hotel, Sadly..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

..Unimpressive room.

This Hotel on first impressions is extremley impressive, it is well located in the centre of Harrogate and seemed to be very grand.
The welcome was warm and the staff very professional.
However sadly I stayed in room 303 (a single) at a cost of £65.00 per night (which included breakfast) What a Nightmare!!!!
The room was very small - bordering on the claustraphobic
The single wardrobe was placed in front of the only window - not that there was any type of view, as there was a wall directly outside the window - nice!
There was a chest of drawers in the room but they were so close to the end of the bed that you couldn't actually open the drawers (however there was some drawer space in the "dressing table")
The TV and tea making facilities were on top of the chest of drawers, however the TV remote did not work (a fact I only found out when trying to watch television later on in the evening) and the tea making facilities were in accessible - except if you were sitting on the end of the bed. I truely believe that trying to make a hot drink would be a health and saftey issue for an elderly or slightly infirm person.
There was a hair dryer provided, however to use it you had to plug it into an extension lead that again looked as if it was a health and safety issue.
The bathroom was okay (it looked more spacious then the room) however the small light above the mirror was all but usless if ou wanted to use it for something like shaving.
To cap it all one of my relatives booked a single room 2 days after me - got a far superior room and it cost them £10.00 less.
Not really impressed at all

ROOM 303 - a prime candidate for "RO0M 101"!!!

Room Tip: Check that you don't get room 303

Didn't stay in the hotel but happened to be passing so nipped into the tea room and enjoyed one enormous pot of Yorkshire Tea for two incredibly priced at less than £4 in the most exquisite surroudings that much to our surprise we had completely to ourselves

We stayed here with friends last weekend. Whilst the room rate was good it was very tired and the bathroom was awful. The heating system was poor and in the bathroom the electric heater was abysmal. The only saving grace for this hotel is the Fat Badger bar. £5 to park as well is an insult. I will not be going back.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

My partner and i stayed here for valentines. First impressions were good, we really liked the decor and the reception staff were friendly. Didn't realise we had to pay £5 for parking, i think that should be included in the room rate.

The room was... cosy, nicely presented but quite small. The major problem we found was booking a double and having two single beds pushed together. If you like your own space at night then it would be perfect for you. The bed itself was hard and uncomfortable. The hotel was obviously not built to be as such so you can hear people talking in the room next to you, and on valentines night there was a bit more than talking going on. It was like they were in the room with us, and not just one couple either!

The location was spot on, nice and central.

The breakfast was good, a nice selection and good quality produce.

Is the room worth £80? We don't think so!

Room Tip: away from any other couple!

Stayed here on a whirlwind trip to Harrogate on 16 Feb 2013. Check in was very quick and easy and our room was lovely. The hotel is in a great place and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a party on that night on the first floor. We were pre-warned and were told we probably wouldn't hear it as we were on the third. It was extremely loud but only went on until 12 so didn't bother us too much.

What I am really keen to point out is the wonderful breakfast. There was an extensive menu including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which I can highly recommend.

This hotel is well worth a stay. Give it a go.

This is a lovely hotel, great location. We arrived in the evening and had no problem parking. The recepionist was extremely pleasant, helpful and informative about the area. The room was decorated to a high standard and was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was served in a spacious dining room, the tables werenwell dressed with lots of choices of condiments, butters and preserves. The english breakfast wasn't the best I've had and I did hear a complaint about the bacon being too crispy but the waitress dealt with it immediately and professionally. The only down side I would have to say is the carpark charge is £5 per day, which is added to your bill. I think this should be added on to the room rate at the time of booking.

No I wouldn't even consider staying here again. £80 for a broom cupboard size room.
I had to go down to reception twice about the very noisy party going on in the room opposite. People trying to kick the door in. This went on until 1am. The duty manager even got the man staying in room opposit down to reception to tell me it was his friends and family making the noise and not him. She knew this because she had been in the bar with him for the last 45 minutes and after all he was staying for a month. Thankfully I wasn't the only one to complain.
On the plus side breakfast was very good and the hotel is in a good location.
