Stayed at the Crown, during the duration of the Yorkshire Show. Had booked two single en suite rooms for my Brother and myself late 2013. The hotel is ideally situated within the town centre and so access to shops, restaurants and bars is excellent.
I noted the problems with parking (the car park is indeed on the small side) so arrived early in order to be able to park up, for the time we stayed in Harrogate. The bus station is only a short walk away, so we used the bus or got a taxi to and from the showground.
Yes, the hotel is old and for me this is its charm, it has a faded elegance. and is charming...but all the communal areas I saw were all clean and certainly not 'tatty' in appearance.
The food and staff were excellent.
The two single rooms we occupied on the first floor were a decent size, but both could have done with some refurbishment, fresh paint to the walls, more modern room furniture etc . The beds were very comfortable though and we were not troubled by noise outside at all.
I would recommend this hotel for its location and for the excellent customer service the staff give in all departments.
