“PRIVATE DINING ROOM EXCELLENCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We hired a private dining room in The Crown Hotel Harrogate for Grandma's 90th birthday party, with pre dinner drinks and canapes in The Place, the hotel's bar. Despite the depleted numbers due to the bad weather we all had a most excellent evening. The private room was expertly decorated, even though we never asked for such a professional touch. There was a unanimous agreement that the food, service and attention to detail was of an exceptional quality. Thanks must go to Amanda and Kayte for their professional manner and service, even looking after a rumbustious 2 year old.
We highly recommend The Crown Hotel either for a private party of 20 or 200

After our son stayed at the Crown hotel on business and highly recommended it to us my husband decided to surprise me and booked a 3 night stay. After reading some of the reviews we were a bit concerned about the parking situation but were pleasantly surprised to find a space very easily. The reception area was very impressive and we were very efficiently booked in. Our room was inviting and lovely and warm and cosy although a little dull due to the lack of lighting. The bathroom was very modern and spotlessly clean. We didn't have dinner at the hotel but after eating in the town we returned each evening for coffee which was served with scrumptious homemade shortbread biscuits. After a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed we had a fantastic buffet breakfast with loads of choice in beautiful surroundings and lovely classical music. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we returned to Harrogate. Just one very small niggle, the television was too far away from the bed so the remote control wouldn't work. Oh dear what a shame!!!!

Room Tip: We had room 141 which was very nice and quiet but there was no view which was disappointing so a roo...

I was rather surprised at the Crown Hotel. For a reasonably priced place, you do seem to get that bit extra. I only stayed one night but my room was lovely (and very reasonable) and breakfast was plentiful and filling.

All the staff I came across were helpful and charming. And when I remarked how lovely the hotel was, the two women at reception smiled broadly and said it was also lovely to work there.

I also fell a little bit in love with Harrogate. I'll definitely be going back to The Crown.

Room Tip: Room 230 is a corner room and very comfortable.

The Crown is ideally situated for exploring all the gems of Harrogate. Parking available, although we did struggle to park in tight spaces.
Our standard room was spacious, clean and had everything we required, although a little dated.
The bar was large with friendly staff, although I did raise a brow when my gin and tonic was filled to the top. I would expect a 4 star hotel to allow its clients to pour their own amount of tonic.
I did not eat there at all, so cannot comment on its dining.
It was a last minute booking, to meet up with friends, who were already booked in for the weekend and thought the room only price was a little steep, given the time of year.

Room Tip: The front facing rooms were quite noisy. Maybe view it before accepting it.

Stayed for one night in a twin room as was attending a conference that was being held in the hotel the next day. Room was very clean and well decorated. Breakfast was amazing with everything you would want to eat at the start of the day, with a help yourself hot Buffett breakfast which was well stocked. The conference room was good but very very cold (air conditioning was too powerful). Food again was excellent that was provided.

The restaurant in the hotel was reasonably priced and served a good range of food.

A small group of us from work book a night in a hotle with a meal for our Christmas do. This year we booked the Crown in Harrogate.
A hotel with lots of old charm and character, but also a bit sad and shabby in places. We booked a superior room and glad we did as the standard rooms we saw en route to our room didn't look appealing at all. Some of our party booked suites which were also nice.
We had the private dining room and our meal was really good, complete with Christmas tree the setting was spot on.
Breakfast was also good, buffet style we were in early so it was nice and hot.
Would stay again but would have to up-grade again which is a shame as it's a big hotel to fill.

Room Tip: Would advise paying extra for the up-graded rooms.

We stayed at the Crown on New Year's eve having stayed there many times over the years with our family and friends. We had experienced problems with the service from the event staff earlier in the year when we tried to book our New Year celebrations to the extent that some of our friends were so upset they refused to join us. Those of us that decided to stay were offered upgraded rooms as compensation. However the bathroom my wife and I were given had no heating whatsoever - not even a heated rail to dry our towels. To add to this there was no hot water on New Year's eve to allow us to bath or shower. A very unhospitable situation. Our relations had not been fully upgraded and when they asked for the trimmings to go with the upgrade they were very reluctantly provided by the hotel with little in the way of an apology. They felt very unwelcome. We paid for a buffet and disco on New Year's eve in what we thought would be a private party. It seems that people were allowed to walk in without any payment shortly before midnight. The breakfast the following morning was cold.We know parking at the hotel is extremely limited as was on street parking when we arrived so we were advised by reception to park in the nearby multi storey car park which we have done before without problem. However they omitted to tell us the car park was closed from New Year's eve until 2nd of January. When we arrived on New Year's day morning we had to pay £60 to get our car released. The hotel staff seemed unconcerned when we returned to tell them. They need to remember this next year when advising guests where to park.

Room Tip: If you stay in winter make sure the bathroom is heated

Dear Gil_rik

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review on Trip Advisor, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused during your stay with the hot water, unfortunately it was unavoidable problem that occurred, with regards to the car park as a hotel we were not aware that the NCP would be closed on New Years Day, but i completley sympathise with your situation, not a great start to the new year, I am aware of the problems that you encountered earlier in the year when booking your rooms, and hopefully if you give the hotel another opportunity, i would be happy to handle your booking directly.
Thank you once again for taking the time to write a review on trip advisor
