I stopped for four nights over Easter for a conference. The staff were very helpful in all matters I felt well looked after.
The English breakfast buffet was beyond compare! - if you like that sort of thing - and I do.
Two pleasant bars and an enormous lobby for meeting and chatting, as well as meeting rooms for some of the conference fringe events.
It is a grand old hotel with in the traditional style but is very well looked after with modern facilities. Wifi Internet access in the lobby with points in the rooms; I didn't have to pay for the wifi, but there may be a charge normally.
I can't comment on value for money as I didn't do the booking.

if this is not at the top of the list of hotels in Harrogate then there must be some very good ones.we paid £90/nt bband 2 crs evening al-a-carte evening meal, what ever you do here have a side order of chips ,not cheap (£2.75 ) but the best bar none.Rooms first class on cleanliness, quite warm ,but thats much better than being cold.Position A1, no sea view but it may not be their fault. Breakfast again top notch

Room Tip: the summer sizzler

With all the charm of an ancient building, but with modern facilities, we were pleasantly surprised how well The Crown catered for all our needs. Located within easy walking distance of the town centre yet set apart overlooking green space, the frontage gave an appealing sense of quiet grandure, nevertheless the staff made it a friendly place to be. Unfortunately parking is very limited - get there early!

We had a fantastic trip to Harrogate, despite the debacle at The Crown.
We booked 2 single rooms for Sat 23 July 11 2 months ago. We were contacted 2 days before to check we were still coming, which we confirmed.
We checked our bags in at 10.30am and returned at 5pm to be allocated rooms.
We were told our rooms had been double booked and there was 'no room at the inn'. We were allocated to the nearby 'Majestic', which was unsatisfactory and of inferior quality. It took an hour of negotiating on our part to get 'compensation' in the form of a complimentary meal there that evening.
We met another party checking in at The Majestic who had also had their rooms doule booked at The Crown.

A very unsatisfactory situation which could have, but didn't, blight our trip.

Stayed one night as a base for visiting RHS Harlow Carr gardens. We were very happy with the hotel and got a good price of £75 for a twin room including breakfast when we booked online several weeks in advance. Very comfortable, spacious room and bathroom. Decent hairdryer, iron, kettle, and toiletries provided. Breakfast was brilliant!

Only gripe was it was a bit noisy outside from time to time in the early hours it being a Friday night, and with no double glazing this was a bit annoying.

The hotel is a ten minute walk from the railway station, has two good pubs just across the road, and we loved being able to walk to the RHS gardens via Valley gardens just across the road. We didn't use the hotel bar as it only had keg beer, and there was plenty of choice over the road.

I would say The Crown was disappointing but my expectations weren't high. My wife and I stayed two nights during a business trip. On the first we were allocated a standard room (255) which was pokey which wouldn't have mattered since we were only sleeping there, except the bed was rock hard! We complained and were given an 'executive' room (358) for the second night. This was much bigger with a comfortable bed. Neither had an extractor in the bathroom. Both charged for internet access in the room.
On the plus side, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the cooked buffet breakfast made with fresh local food was the best I've had in a long time.
