“Different class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

My wife and I have just returned from a stay at the Ascot House. We researched Harrogate on TA knowing little about Harrogate other than watching Michael Portillo visit the town during one of his many railway travels using his trusty Bradshaw's Guide. Our principal interest was in visiting York with its many attractions whilst staying in what is a very stylish town not too far away that we hadn't previously visited.

It worked perfectly! The hotel is everything one could wish for - very helpful and pleasant staff; really good food; spotlessly clean room with large bed; just a few minutes walk from the centre of Harrogate and a 30 minute drive from the Rawcliffe Bar "Park and Ride" for York - itself a ten minute bus ride from the centre of the city. As senior citizens with bus passes, there is just a 60p charge to use the park and ride system and parking onsite is free.

As has been mentioned in earlier reports about Ascot House, the car park is a little tight but we had no problems on the two nights we stayed there. There is on street parking free from 6pm overnight - don't let this minor niggle stop you staying here - it would be far worse if you stayed in York, a lovely city but not designed with motoring in mind!

We plan to return with some other couples later in the year and can recommend the venue with confidence.

Very pleasant two night stay in March. This small hotel is very well located, a short walk from the center of Harrogate, is generally well presented and clean. We booked a standard double room and after reading other reviews we were a bit disappointed. The room (12) is small, a little dated and uninspiring with views to the rather drab rear of the property. The passage way to the standard rooms is narrow and winding. Would recommend booking a turret or superior room which are directly off the pleasant landing at the top of the stairs. The car park is very tight. Another guests large 4x4 was too big for the spaces.
Breakfast was fantastic, a full Yorkshire cooked just how you like.

Room Tip: Go for a turret or superior room.

We stayed for two nights in January in the Turret room. Fantastic, well proportioned room with a lovely ensuite. Spotlessly clean. All the staff were excellent especially the "head" waiter and the Spanish barman. The boss/chef did a great job of supplying my evening Guinness. He also supplied fantastic food both at breakfast and for the evening meal.Mouth watering delicious fare.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a convenient site to visit Harrogate that will not leave you disappointed.
Arthur and Chris.

Room Tip: book the Turret room

I wouldn't want simply to repeat other positive reviews of this hotel but for comfort, location, price and food this would always be my first port of call if looking for accommodation in Harrogate. A short walk to town and plenty of car parking in the car park or adjacent street. Extremely cold weather during the time we were in Harrogate but every room was lovely and warm. First class accommodation. If you want to see more detail, read the previous reviews.

Stayed two nights midweek in a "superior" room.
Nice big room, well-appointed and spotlessly clean, with a huge bed!
The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very helpful and obliging.
Close to the town centre.
I strongly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 25 is large and well-appointed.

Had a long weekend in harrogate and booked ascot house on strength of feedback on tripadvisor and was not disappointed. The place is really homely. About 10 mins walk from centre of harrogate which was a nice amble once you had something to eat in the evening.. Breakfast was bob on. Really was 5 star.

Room Tip: Looking forward to going back
