“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights for a relaxing break with friends. Hotel is situated within walking distance from town centre which is perfect. Rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was lovely, great variety. The only slight moan would be the check-out could be quicker, only seemed to be 1 person on reception. Apart from that, would stay here again.

The public rooms and refurbished bedrooms are fine but the rest of the hotel needs some TLC. The staff are excellent but on occasions there was definite under staffing. The breakfast is superb and our food at this function was good.

The location is excellent and the hotel is worth a visit for the decor in the public rooms alone!

Room Tip: Try and get a refurbished bedroom!

Don't be fooled by the pictures on there website. just returned from a weekend break, party of 5.
2 twin rooms and a single. Admittedly on a deal but the single was so bad we wouldn't accept it so moved to a twin but although better still very poor. One twin had been re=furbished and was lovely but the bathroom hadn't. the other twin was old and tired. the first night came with dinner which was bland at best. The breakfast was the best part of our stay. The whole place was tatty and the planyt pots at the front of the Hotel were full of cigarette ends on the Sunday morning at 11 am!
The hotel was full as there were conferences on which meant any idea of a quiet drink in the bar was a joke as it was taken over by the penguin bregade. So overall a poor show Puma

Room Tip: Ask for a re-furbishes room, but beware the bathroom probably hasn't been

Dear Gilly012,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel. I'm very sorry that we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion.

As no formal complaint was raised at the time I would appreciate you getting in contact so that I may better understand the full details of your break.

There are many traveller pictures on the TA site which members have kindly loaded giving a real reflection of the hotel and our feedback has invaribaly been more positive than your experience.

I'm sorry that you were disappointed and should you get in contact I'm certain that we can redeem your present view of the hotel.

Many thanks, Vince

Stayed two nights with friends and had a lovely stay. All staff where very helpful and friendly.Check in very good with full information given. I was staying in a single room and did find the first room allocated to me very dated and smelt very badly of cigarette smoke but reception soon sorted the matter, the second room was much better and more updated. The other two rooms given to my friends where large and clean. Yes the hotel is a little tired in places it is a VERY old building with beautiful character. If you are expected a faceless box to sleep in with modern furniture then stay at any chain of faceless hotels. The Majestic is steeped in history with good facilities. The food in the resturant on the Saturday evening was very good, yes the choice was a little limited but we all found something we liked. Again the staff here professional at all times. Breakfast good with plenty of choice. We all had spa treatments, the staff did a great job, worked very hard and made us all feel well treated, thank you girls.
Did not use the pool so can not comment.
The hotel is very central for Harrogate, which is a beautiful town with plenty to see and do. Would recommend this hotel, we got a fantastic deal on the two night stay with dinner by joining Puma hotels as a member for life at the cost of £20.00 but gives you great discounts.
Thanks again to the staff for making this a great weekend will see you again.

Room Tip: would be worth up grading to Premier rooms as larger and more updated

Dear DEW62,

Thank you very much for your review of the Majestic Hotel. I was delighted to read your comments and to hear how much you had enjoyed your break.

You are so right in that we are a heritage property and quite proud of it, but regardless of the surroundings I'm more pleased to see how well you felt looked after by our staff. They are our greatest asset and sometimes overshadowed by the chandeliers, marble and murals.

Your recommendation for our Leisurebreaks Club is great advice and offers members all manner of benefits.

I do hope you'll venture back up from Essex soon. Many thanks, Vince

I have just had an overnight spa break at this hotel. Friendly staff, excellent facial, back massage etc. Nice evening meal included, good choices at breakfast. Bedroom lovely, large and recently renovated.Very central location for exploring Harrogate.Plenty of parking too on site.
Only downside was that indoor pool, gym and sauna were in a different block from beauty rooms
.

Room Tip: We were on a spaselect break so room was chosen for us - it was excellent and large - twin beds seat...

Dear Leedssally,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel. I'm really happy that you chose the Majestic for your pamper break and glad to see that you enjoyed the package.

Yes, in an ideal World we would have both the beauty salon and the health club in the same location, though this was not possible. We only created the Orchid Rooms beauty salon in 2007 in the quiet recesses of our lower ground floor. It is a wonderful facility, always enjoyed and with a small but friendly and professional team.

Many thanks, Vince

Just returned from an extremely pleasant weekend at the Majestic. This is a very large, imposing hotel within walking distance of the town centre. Service at reception was quick and easy even though the hotel was full. We had a lovely big room on the 4th floor which overlooked the garden. It had a good sized bathroom with an effective shower. Very comfy bed. All nice and clean.

We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening as we were visiting friends, but the breakfast the next morning was lovely. The staff in the dining room are particularly friendly and attentive even though it is a buffet service. Plenty of food with lots of variety and replenished frequently.

This hotel is not new or modern but does have a certain ambience. Decor is true to its age and it's not trying to be anything other than what it is. The main areas including reception, bar and dining room are particularly lovely.

If you like modern and minimalist this hotel is not for you, but if your looking for comfort and a special atmosphere then stay here. We shall definitely be back,

Me and 2 friends stayed last night. The hotel is Victorian grandeur at its best. the room was lovely and spacious, evening dinner very good indeed, with excellent service. Each of us booked a beauty treatment and thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. The only disappointment we had was as we had booked in advance for our spa package on arrival, we expected bathrobes and slippers to be available on arrival and they were not. We raised this frustration 5 times with staff and didn't get a very helpful response, we later found out by accident one of the dryers had broken, which expalned the lack of service. It would have been good if reception were honest about the situation.

Dear Emma Y,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel. I'm really pleased to see that you enjoyed your dining experience and stay overall.

Beauty treatments in our wonderfully peaceful Orchid Rooms are always well received and our small team of therapists always receive praise.

Sincere apologies for the delay with the bathrobes, and for your understanding with the dryer breakdown.

Looking forward to welcoming you back and perhaps next time you can also incorporate a visit to the famous Turkish Baths, just a 300 mtr walk away.

Many thanks, Vince
