“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

This 4 star hotel has no indoor pool and guests are only allowed to use the spa facilities if staff are not "too busy with treatments".
As my wife and myself like to have a swim before breakfast, we were really disappointed by this.
I wrote a review when we returned last week but, for whatever reason, it has been removed from the Tripadvisor site.
I did not say anything that isn't true and this is the first time in 40-odd reviews that this has happened.
Strange, considering it had already received a "helpful" comment.

Dear Guest

Thank you for staying with us at Rudding Park and for sharing your views with the Trip Advisor Community.

We were somewhat confused by your review as none of our promotional material claims that we have a swimming pool. If, as you state you enjoy a swim before breakfast, I would recommend in future that you check the literature of the Hotel you are staying at to ensure that you are not disappointed. All of our guests have complimentary use of the local Health Club which does have a swimming pool. On your next visit, please ask Reception for directions and we will be more than happy to help.

You also claim that you are only able to use the Spa facilities at Rudding Park ‘if staff are not too busy with treatments’. This is untrue as our Spa is reserved for guests who have booked treatments and is nothing to do with whether our staff are busy or not.

I do feel that your review is unfair as it was your error in not checking whether we had a pool, all of our other services were perfect and as such the 60% rating you have given us is unjust.

For your information and to inform the rest of the Trip Advisor community, we are in the process of developing a £5,000,000 Spa complex which will have a fitness and hydrotherapy pool.

Thank you once again for staying with us at Rudding Park and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

With kind regards

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

My mother booked my husband and I a two night mini break at the Rudding Park hotel, as a surprise treat for after our wedding. We don't go on our honeymoon until later this year, so mum thought we would need a rest after the wedding; and she was right!! I came down with a virus shortly after the wedding, so thankfully I felt well enough to enjoy our luxurious retreat!
The Rudding Park Hotel is a place I have never stayed in by choice. Its always been a works occasion or someone's wedding. We only live a 40 minute drive away, so there's little point for us to actually ever choose to stay over in Harrogate.
The hotel is simply stunning. The extension 3 years ago created a luxurious spa, a private cinema room and additional well designed suites and bedrooms.
We had a lovely bottle of Prosecco waiting for us in the room and a congratulations card from the staff; a really nice touch.
If I'm being completely honest, its very expensive for what it actually is. Yes its beautiful, the rooms are luxuriously designed, theres roll top baths and walk in steam showers, a private veranda, a flat screen TV erected on the wall, free wifi, lovely linen (but incredibly soft uncomfortable pillows which made for an awful first nights sleep!) and so on, but the hotel itself lacks any kind of atmosphere. The staff fall over themselves to help you, the beauty therapists (in particular Rachel & Emma) are wonderfully professional and incredibly polite, the waiting staff are courteous, the bar staff prompt; its all very very lovely. But when you are the only two people sat in the hotel bar (listening to a wonderful Jazz singer whose clearly excellent and not getting the audience he deserves!) after an early evening meal, you begin to wonder why people stay here at all, if not for a works occasion or wedding!!
The Clocktower restaurant is beautiful the food divine and the prices, steep (ish), but we are foodies and will pay the price for good food. You do get an allowance of £38 per person if you are a staying guest, which as it happens, is the exact cost of the 'Food Heroes' 3 course set menu!! The meals each night were perfection and it really is worth coming to the hotel, even if it is just for the food!
My husband had a short round of golf and we had treatments in the spa as well. It really was a treat that we both thoroughly enjoyed and after all, they say you only get married once, so this place will remain special for being 'that place we went to for our mini-moon.'
But for £898 (yes, a 2 night stay with a facial, couples massage, a few additional food items outside of the £38pp food allowance and £50 worth of drinks in the bar) we could've actually gone much farther afield. A lovely hotel, the Uk's best it seems and an extravagant treat, but it wouldn't be a place I'd jump to stay at again.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the new extension, though you may well pay a premium for this!

Dear Guest

Thank you for staying with us at Rudding Park for your mini-moon and for taking the time to write your review. Congratulations once again from all of us on your recent special day!

We are delighted that you found Rudding Park ‘simply stunning’ and for all of your lovely comments regarding our team.

I can only apologise that you thought that we are ‘very expensive’, we do regularly compare our prices with other similar establishments and find ourselves very competitive in relation. In regards to the pillows in our rooms, unfortunately all of our guests prefer a different style of pillow and we do have a firmer variety, on your next visit please do ask for this. We are also looking at introducing a pillow menu in the rooms to ensure all of our guests the best possible nights’ sleep.

It is unfortunate that our talented jazz band did not have a full audience, they play every Friday and as a result we usually have a full bar! I am glad however that you enjoyed your meals in the Clocktower, our chefs were very happy to hear that you defined these as ‘perfection’.

I do hope that you choose to return to Rudding Park in the future, please do keep an eye on our website for all of our special promotions and do let me know when you would like to next visit so that I can personally oversee your stay.

With kind regards

Visited Rudding Park for a 2 day break, just as the first time we stayed it was an excellent experience .The staff are efficient and helpful , but also want to help .
We benefitted from a Tripadvisor special break, which included afternoon tea. Our second day included a Spa treatment, which again was a very nice experience , the staff in the Spa were also very helpful.
Will definitely return.

We stopped at Rudding Park for my husbands birthday. Our expectations were surpassed, the room and food were fabulous but the service from everyone who worked there made our stay special.
What ever the recruitment and training process they employ is second to none, I love that each person we came across had a fabulous personality, it was refreshing and made a difference.
Can't recommend Rudding Park enough

Stayed here on a number of occasions and it is our treat to ourselves on the occasional weekend to get away from everything. The rooms are luxurious and you are not far from Harrogate which is beautiful. The food in the restaurant is absolutely delicious. Would fully recommend a visit here.

Having booked a night at Rudding Park as an anniversary treat we were nothing but impressed from start to finish. The room booked had a steam room, roll top bath and large shower. The bathroom and bedroom had TVs which also offered a good selection of music as well as TV and radio. There was a multimedia point in the main room which allowed a host of attachments to the large HD TV. What made the stay special was the little things - a card and a bottle of cava on ice, the appearance of bottled water and 'dotty' the massage tool when we went for dinner. The food on offer was excellent, for a starter my wife had leak and asparagus and I had the pigeon breast; for main course we shared a rack of lamb which was divine. Breakfast offered a good range of cooked or cold choices and was very well presented. Throughout the stay the staff were professional, engaging and couldn't help enough. We didn't use the gym or spa and there is no pool, which is perhaps the only negative. I would highly recommend Rudding Park to anyone wanting to stay somewhere a little bit secial.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new wing are available with sauna, steam room or whirlpool bath.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

This weekend was my third visit to Rudding Park. The first was only for a function a few years ago.
Our second visit was over the valentines weekend in February.
We stayed in the Follifoot wing and were disappointed by a few minor things that on their own would have been insignificant, but taken together meant our experience did not live up to what what we were expecting from the previous reviews.
After check out we were followed up and our concerns were taken seriously and dealt with in the professional manner you would expect from this level of hotel.
As a result we decided to return for our anniversary weekend.
We again stayed in the Follifoot wing but this time we were upgraded to a room with a small sauna which was fabulous. We also used the spa for 2 treatments - this was also excellent. The location and grounds are also lovely and in general the service is very good - especially the porter staff, and yet we still left not 100% satisfied.
Why? - The Clock-tower restaurant where we have had 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts over our stays. The food is only ok and the service hit and miss at best. I really wanted to give 5 stars after the care we offered after the previous stay, but I'm afraid it'll have to wait until we return and have a good meal. Clearly reading most of the other reviews we have been unlucky, and we wish the team continued success.

Room Tip: Room 164 has a sauna.

Dear Guest

Thank you for staying with us at Rudding Park again for your anniversary and for taking the time to share your views with the Trip Advisor community. Congratulations from all of us once again!

We are all delighted that you enjoyed your stay in one of our Follifoot spa rooms, I agree that the personal sauna is fabulous and a true luxury! Thank you for your lovely comments about our team, our porters are especially delighted that they were able to impact your celebratory stay in such a positive manner.

I can only apologise that you found the Clocktower service ‘hit and miss’ and the food ‘only ok’, the vast majority of our guests love the food served in the Clocktower which is highlighted by the high number of regular guests we have, both from the hotel and the local area. Our Restaurant Manager and team are equally disappointed with your comments regarding staff and are so sorry that you did not experience the high level of service upon which we pride ourselves.

I look forward to welcoming you back to Rudding Park in the near future where we can demonstrate that your unfortunate Clocktower experience was indeed the exception to the rule.
